Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your help - I am finally getting all the niggles on my disco sorted out now :)

I have one more that I am a bit puzzled with: The heated front screen doesn't work.

There is a connector in each scuttle (left+right) for the heated screen, and volts appear there when I turn the screen on. However, no demisting happens. Would anybody happen to know how and where the wires actually attach to the screen element itself, as I can't see this without perhaps removing the black plastic panel where the windscreen wipers are. I suspect they need a good old clean and some petroleum jelly on them to get a good contact!

Cheers,

David

The element wires are sanwiched in the glass so there's no way of getting at them.
The element does not demist very well unlike the thicker elements of the rear one, the heated does a better job at demisting.
The heated screen is better used for removing frost, ice or snow thats sticking to the windscreen.

Thanks for the reply!

Perhaps I didn't do a very good job at explaining what I'm after :)

The wires from the connector in the scuttle must connect to the screen itself somewhere - it's this connection I'm after, rather than access to the element wires themselves. As each element wire is in parallel, even if some element wires have died some should still work, but at present I've got nothing...

They are bonded / soldered to the very bottom / outer edges of the screen, you can really only see them when the screen is out, its possible they have "dry" solder joints, but unlikey for both to fail imo, the TD5 has 2 fuses btw for the heated screen, one for each side of the element.

You could always throw a rock at it, call your insurers and get the screen replaced. It'll cost you your screen excess (normally about £75) and they should sort it for you!
