Ive been looking at getting 1999 onwards 2.5 td5 GS Discovery in September, I'm doing the research bit before I buy. Ive looked at insurance :eek: but I herd that there was going to be a change in the Road Tax. Is this true? Ive tryed looking on the Internet for this but no joy. :confused:
 
Hello m.levin, without getting all political (which I shall do my best to avoid), this subject at the moment is still speculation although we've all heard of forthcoming "hikes" in revenue.
Remember this has come through the media, it sells for them.

Apparently they are going to raise the tax in 2 ways:

One portion of it is for 4x4 owners:
The second portion is for stupid 4x4 owners.


Its going to be 10 trillion pounds a year, plus one small child.
 
Heh heh.

I think like is said above its all media hype.
If they put the tax up to 300 quid, one person stopping driving period would lose them far more than that per quota.

i think it will carry on the same way myself, bit by bit until they reach a breaking point.
 
Unfortunatly this is no rumor or hype. Yesterday saw the SECOND hearing in the houses of parliment for new 4x4 tax price rise and I am led to beleive that it is regardles or age of vehicle (NOT JUST NEW ONES!). If passed they are looking at introducing it before the end of the year!! The only thing I am unsure of is how much it will go up by (has been rumored to be anything up to six times normal limit:eek: ) Not wanting to scare people but it seems like this may become a reality soon.
 
Hey. Its not me saying what gets taxed and how! Any way tree hugers couldnt give two ****s if you drive around in a panda 4x4. Its Off road 4x4 vehicles being targeted and the motion has now had two hearings in parliment. Nothing has as of yet been passed. At the moment its just a bunch of fat over paid ****s sitting in a room saying "Yes, Yes, here here" and all that crap. If its been talked about twice it looks like its geting serious. I dont want it to happen as much as any other 4x4 owner on this site as it will affect me just the same. Just stating what I know.
 
It is a load of toss. you can get some cars that weigh near as much as a 4X4 with V12 engines that kick out more CO2. I bet some of ring piece (greenpeace) have 4X4 to get them to there trees.
 
This is true. Like the Renault grand espase v6 20mpg if your lucky and weigh about the same as a disco. Problem is they are seen as family cars where as off roaders are seen by hippys as destroyers of byways and the ozone.
 
Due to all politicians aiming to catch the popular vote the 4x4 fraternity are the new scoundrels on par with feral kids etc..... However in typical political short sightedness a whole industry will be at risk in order for certain people to remain in power and extract maximum financial gains to ones personal accounts regardless of the cost to the populus... Alas by using the old adage of divide and conquer they have devised a common criminal to the masses by inflicting their immorals on us 4x4 middle ground England.... aaaaah I apologise for the monlogue ladies and Gents.....
