Disco r380 into defender

Hi Guys I'm new to this forum so id like to say thanks for having me, I'm trying to find out if a r380 gearbox from a disco will replace the worn out r380 in my defender has anyone done this swap and is it straightforward any info will be appreciated.

The bell housing and input shaft are way longer so the gearsticks would be where your middle seat is. You need to find a defender one really.

Hi an update for anyone whose interested, got my box out and put the two boxes side by side, it looks like the only difference after removing the gear stick assemblies is the length of the selector shaft and the handbrake actuator now all I have to do is decide if its worth striping my old box and swap the shafts or some how lengthen the disco selector rod and change the hand brake, the bell housing drive flanges and first motion shaft are all the same. Ill let you know what I do about the selector shaft.

did yu change the gear linkage?

Yeah I used the gear lever and remote off my original box because on the defender the gear stick is in front of the transfer lever but on the disco its behind.
By the way I got a mate to turn up an extension for the selector shaft so no need to strip the old box.
