Have a TD 5 which is a God to tow with but thirsty and a nightmare to park in town (yeah it's a bird posting).

I use it to tow a horse trailer in and out of muddy fields and have to do frequent hill starts etc. Will the Freelander manage this on a regular basis or is it just too feeble??

Combined weight of Hoss and trailer is between 1t and 1.5t.

Freelander is up to the job if it's a TD4 Auto. Clutch on a manual is too feeble for that kind of weight and conditions.

ok well..We have a 13:2 mare in a two horse trailer and the freelander struggled round Derbyshire hills,Put an 11:2 gelding in it at the same time and it was hell on earth Totally gutless.
Now we have a 17:3 tb and the mare in the same trailer pulled by the 300 tdi no problem at all.....' nuff said ....

Tongue in cheek - but wouldn't you need the horses to tow the freelander?

Hi ya. Female Hippo driver here. I'd go with the Disco when pulling. We tow an Ifor Williams trailer for jeep recovery etc and thats about the same weight as you're set-up. I hate to say it but theres no way the Freelander would do the same work and with the ease of the Disco.

Does any body give a serious reply to a serious question?.
It seems Yello Disco and a few more of his ilk just make silly billy remarks about any serious discussions that people might bennifit from.
