Before you buy a new tensioner, check that the bolt is tight and you have pushed it fully home on the spindle.

Tensioners do not wear out that much, and most reasons for belts wearing that soon is because it has not been put back on corectly.

When the tensioners are totally buggered they make noise or they can wear in the sprung part and not align properly. I have changed loads of tensioners!
Also check the pulleys for signs of irregular grooves and alignment.

From my own experience of these tensioners, they do not wear out, this is a simple pulley. As I stated it is all ways the belt or the way that the tensioner is re-fitted that is the problem.

This problem is now fixed, it was the power steering bracket it had a hair line crack in it,
the crack would open up under load and would start to shred the fan belt, so happy days again
