Any ideas would be most welcome:

- 2002 Land Rover Discovery Td5 Xs Auto

I pulled up in a field for a quiet moment of reflection this evening on the way home from shops. Found my spot, came to a stop, put it in park, turned off, interior lights come on. Sit there for a while, maybe 25 minutes, didn't move or interfere with any part of the car not in the driver's cockpit. Time to go, I put the ket into position 1, then 2 prime all lights come on as normal and then go off as normal. Ignition and absolutely nothing. No noise, no engine activity. Display on the clock turns off when it's in the ignition position but other than that nada.

I'm honestly stumped, never happened to me before. Had to walk my shopping through about 2 miles of countryside and the disco is sitting there in limbo.

Any help much appreciated!

That's a bummer, battery connections?
If they are lose enough to stop a big current demand but tight enough to supply a small current to the dash bulbs.
Do the dash lights dim when you go to crank the motor?
Hammer shaft knocking trick on the starter motor body. ;)

I don't mean to hijack but I had exactly the same happen yesterday.
Stop, eat lunch and then it's totally dead.
My key remote would not lock or unlock the doors either.
Luckily after a couple minutes, as if buy magic it worked again.

Guys thank you so so much for your insights.

I just got back from picking the car up, having gone with no expectation.

It wasn't responding when I arrived, so I tried the 'hammer' trick to no avail, then took off the cover to the wiring under the steering wheel and shuffled my hand around for a second to give stuff a nudge, again expecting no reward, and tried it... IGNITION.

Such a good feeling. Only now I've got home and I can't get the window to come up and close... and rain is forecast

My disco love is not dimished!

The hammer shaft knocking trick got me to the solution. Had to take off the wiring casing under steering wheel and wave a magic wand!
Thanks for your help
