I bought my first Discovery about a month ago, and loving it! It's so much more comfortable than my Defenders! It's a Discovery 1 1998 XS in pretty good condition, but it has a few teething problems. The worst of which, are the doors. After having two old defenders, this electrical malarkey is a bit confusing, so bear with me. I've been trying to google the symptoms but keep coming up blank.

The drivers side passenger door doesn't lock, and it takes quite a few tries to open it... as far as I can tell this is the common spring clip issue. I have a pack of 5 coming and that seems relatively straight forward to fix, especially using the thread on here as a guide.

The drivers front door works, but when using the fob to lock, there is a very rapid clicking as it locks, but has no trouble unlocking. I've heard this might be the central locking actuator, but they seem to cost around £150 to replace as its an alarm/immobilser thing. Is there a way to test if the one in the vehicle is on its way out, or to maybe repair the actuator itself instead of forking out over £150?

The tailgate lock worked fine with the key to start with, but after a week the key just turns the barrel without budging the lock, but the door unlocks fine from the inside. It is just a locking problem, the latch works without fail every time. I thought it would be a key barrel issue, and a whole new latch might be needed, but I'm now wondering if this is a symptom of the infamous spring clip failing again? I've searched online but haven't come across anyone else with the exact same symptoms. And that got me thinking... should I have central locking on the tailgate door with this model? and is that another faulty actuator?

I do miss the simplicity of the Defender, but the misses agrees to be a passenger in the disco so I need to get the problems ironed out....

Any help or pointers will be appreciated

Sound it's an actuator issue all doors should lock-unlock with the fob, a simple adjustment or replacement of the actuator is all that required and they don't cost £150 and used ones on eBay sometimes for around £10, you will need the master door the drivers door if replacing, the spring issue is on unlocking the door pin drops back down slightly re locking the door.
The key barrel turning suggest that the retaining clip is missing.

This is going to sound real defeatest but in my opinion is find out a local Landu pref disco experienced mechanicsc and get some advice, could save you a fortune in time and money, I had a similar but not as comply issue, took it too a guy who solved it within a couple of hours 60 quid later all perfect, that's my opinion, the locking system on the disc can be a pain in the arse, but whichever avenue you go good luck

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll bite the bullet and take it to a proper mechanic then. Fixing doors on a defender was very easy compared to this, but it's great to be a part of the Disco club
