So I've decided to make a build thread for my Disco Challenge truck.

It's a very long project as being a student, I don't have lots of cash to pelt at it! + the 90 sometimes saps my money.

The base vehicle is a 1994 Discovery V8i ES Manual. Rust free might I add!

Runs nicely and gearbox feels slick.

Here's how it is when I bought it a few months ago.

Bought it as a non starter, due to an electrical issue with starter. Turned out to be the earth from the starter motor.

First quick job I did was give the engine a oil and filter change.

Following this, I removed the front plastic trim for better approach angle:

Note this is a rolling project for now! It will be used for fun and light comps when it can!

More later!

Have been wondering what is behind all the trim on the front.
How hard was it to remove?

Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Will it be bob tailed or tray back?

Tray back - sort of. Going to be a bit different to the usual though. Might be extending the wheelbase at the back given it will be competing in ultra4 style events so stability at speed will be important.

I am looking at doing something like this:

That looks mean a folk!!!!

Mean price too :D

It will get there eventually. Just got to take the expensive step of having such a roll cage built and all the body modification.

So on the list so far:

Roll cage / body fab
Suspension (thinking King Air shocks)
Hydraulic bump stops
Ashcroft locking diffs
Axle bracing
possible front swap to disco 2 axle
37" Coooper STTs
Race fuel cell
extended trailing arms
Skid plate under transmission
Bucket seats
Various electrical bits, isolators, lights etc.

Got a winch on the way, a Warn 9.5ti. Need to get a new synthetic rope.
Ive missed a good bit off but there's the main things.

Any suggestions / recommendations for parts appreciated.

Now you see why this is going to be 'slowly' :D

Ah, I understand the no cash lark bud, I'm always poor  Bloody lr's have a lot to answer for.
Be nice to see how this turns out :)
How much do you plan on doing yourself? Dear do when you start paying people which is why I try everything myself first. Learnt a lot like that too :)

Well I'll try to do as much as a I can myself. I will probably do most of the body cutting myself but of course will take it to the pro's for the cage.

Also makes it a little hard when I am only at home every other weekend because I am at uni.

My winch should be coming this week so can get something done with that. I was going to enter the disco in a local competition in a few weeks but I don't think I will have the winch ready by then. I was also going to get a winch bumper for it but now I think I will just buy a winch mount that fits between the chassis rails and have the roll cage / bumper all in one with a v taper down from each edge of the bonnet as many ultra4 trucks have.

The transporter trailer took a large sum of the funds (especially as the first one wasn't up to my needs and had to get another). If it wasn't for that the cage would probably be done by now.
