Hi all,

I'm new to this and to be honest I've joined because I've run out of ideas with my disco and hoped maybe someone else has had the same problem and more importantly resolved the non start issue I'm currently experiencing.
It all started with a non start after standing for 10 hrs at work, no issues previously. Broke down 4 times on way home eventually got started by cranking over until it started. Vehicle now on drive turns over but will not start, fitted new fuel pump, complete fuel filter and housing, fuel pressure regulator , temp sensor and crank sensor. There is fuel at pressure reg and a feed to glow plugs but the car refuses to start? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated one other issue since getting home was self levelling suspension light has come on and rear susp is on the floor? Only fault code is glow plug relay drive open load?

Help

All good you got there eventually.

A few questions:

How did you get the code for the glow plugs?

Have you tried the purge procedure?
Is the battery in good condition, what is the voltage while it is cranking?
Have you got a proper D2 diagnostics ? nanocom / hawkeye / testbook?
What was the fuel pressure at the FPR, if you checked?

REF the suspension.

Is it down both sides?
Does the compressor run?
Has it had any issues leading up to this failure?

Have a look here.

We borrowed a Snapon Verdict D7 from a mate which produced the glow plug relay issue, we have tried the purge procedure many times without success, the battery seemed down so was recharged and a battery pack used to help the cranking .
We don't have a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure
The suspension is down on both sides and because the suspension warning light is on the pump will not run. The compressor was replaced along with both air bags and level sensors. These were replaced because the suspension kept dropping to the floor whilst driving?
I suspected the battery being duff although it is less than two years old, we had it checked and it passed 2 drop tests and the battery condition and charge levels were checked both showing 100%
That's why I'm really scratching my head at the moment.

Cheers for your help so far

HI Buab,

Unfortunately , I do not know the Snap on D7, it may be of benefit to find a local with dedicated D2 diagnostics.

OK, the compressor can "lock " out if it has been running too long, it may need the Diagnostics to reset the alarm.
DO you have the Rave workshop manual, then you can check the relays and fuses for the SLS system.
Iirc, If the voltage on the battery drops too low while cranking then the engine will not start.
Did you check the vids on youtube?

Cheers

The D7 is a good bit of kit I'll recheck the cranking voltage and if need be change the battery.

The SLS does not now show any fault codes the warning light only comes on when cranking the engine so there is every chance it could be the battery dropping whilst cranking.

I may end up having it recovered to Land Rover but their labour rates are pretty high at £140ph and I don't really want to face a bill for them checking the obvious!

I saw a thread that suggested injector seals/copper washer issues but that normally produces oil levels to rise and mine is constant. I think I've watched everything there is on you tube but to no avail!
Thanks for your time
Regards
Barry

Change your injector seals, oil level rising is not a guaranteed diagnosis. My oil levels never rose but had the same problems.
