Hi all

My first proper question post on here.

Contemplating getting a Disco but being my first Landy have a couple of reservations and questions.

I've got a daily commute of 15 miles to work mainly on single lane a-roads so doing a steady speed most of the way with a bit of stop start town driving for the last mile.
What sort of real world mpg could I expect from a Disco on this journey?

I can stretch to a mk 3 2.7 diesel should I be looking as new as poss but high mileage or older but less mileage? Heard some horror stories as the mileage racks up.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks.

Steve.

on a 300tdi disco I used to average 30/32mph..

presumably newer models will give ya a couple of extra miles on that figure..

For D2's chassis rot is the big killer. and on D3 the dualmass flywheels and clutch makes for an spensive trip to the garage if they go.

I do about that in a fully laden D2 commercial everyday, does low twenties (td5) its on 212,000 miles, had it 2.5 years and its been pretty reliable really:D

I use my 300tdi as a daily commuter, 50 miles there, 50 miles home. I keep my speed below 60, revs about 21/2200, which is a nice chilled out speed, and if i dont go too heavy on the throttle when accelerating, I reckon I am getting between 35 and 40 mpg on a run. Probably about 25 to 30 mpg around town/country lanes. But, I run mine on home brew which makes mpg almost irrelevant.

My D3 does about 25mpg on a use pattern like yours, going to 34 when on a longer run.

It's a tdv6 2.7 manual

Hi Steve, if fuel consumption is going to be an issue on your commute I would suggest you steer away from any sort of Discovery. My reasons are:

1. All Discoverys are heavy vehicles, between 2.2 and 2.7tons;

2. All are permanent four wheel drive.

3. All Discoverys will, on this journey you describe, average about 22mpg or less.

Land Rover Discoverys are wonderful vehicles but they are NOT designed to be commuter vehicles and they all require higher levels of maintenance by comparison to ordinary family cars.

I'm not wanting to put you off, just wanting to give the REAL picture. Personally I love 'em but I tow with our LR's and work off-road with them, so they are perfect for me.

Cheers
Dave

Had a 300Tdi manual, used to average 32mpg,
then changed to a Td5 auto - dropped to 26mpg.

DIII is a big heavy car (even compared to DI / DII), so I wouldn't have thought you'd get better than 30
