I have a Disco 1996 300tdi, I parked it up in september and now I am starting to put it back on the road, The problum is it will not start. The battery is new and fully charged and it has new heater plugs fitted. It cranks over but will not fire up, there is no smoke coming out the exhaust. It has quarter of a tank of fuel in it. any Idea's would be helpfull

Get some easy start. Take off the air inlet hose behind your air filter ( the large hose ) and spray a little easy start down the tube. About three seconds worth. Try starting it when done. Should start. If it does and then stops you have a fueling problem. Undo one of your injector pipes but only loosen it don't take it off all together turn over the engine see if there's fuel there. if not. open the nut on top of your fuel filter again don't take it off completely but loosen it. Turn engine over keep turning over. If no luck with fuel coming out of the screw then check your lift pump. Take it off completely and check if its working it should suck and blow when you push the arm up and down. If all ok there. Then your sender unit if Knackered. Open back door lift the carpet and underlay back. you will see a round cover take it off. If you can. If screws are knackered like mine. get a
heavy screwdriver put it on the side of the screw and hit it hard with hammer. The screw will come out as there only fixed in with nylon fixings. You will need new screws. You will see 2 pipes going into tank. It's almost guaranteed these will have holes in them. Give them a good tug from side to side if they come loose then the unit is goosed. get a new one and you will be right.

Just thought To check your lift pump. You could always get a can of fuel. rig a pipe from pump inlet side to can if it starts and runs. then you know its the fuel filter. I cut the inlet pipe and joined another to it and ran the line to the fuel can. Found it was the sender unit. The pipes I joined together using a clear plastic diesel filter so I could see whats going on and If there's air in my system. Simple job. Good luck

take the fuel cut off switch out off the diesel injection pump take out the little black valve and spring and clean them to check the cut off switch reconnect the wire replace spring and valve hold the cut off switch to earth and turn on the ignition switch if its working the valve should retract up into the body of the valve they sometimes stick after being idle for sometime if it does not move a new cut off switch will be required
