Hey all, hope you can help!

Not quite sure how to describe this but hear goes.

Engine is running great, sweet as a nut, but over teh last 2 weeks I have heard an almost whining noise as I drive. It is only there when I move, you can't hear it when stationery. Its not massively loud but aware that it is there and gets worse when you accelerate and hit about 70/80

Now I know that isnt much of a description but reckon there must be someone out there with a disco 3 that has had the same problem!

Cheers

I get a whining noise immediately after filling up. I realised it was me!

Is your noise related to road speed, or engine speed. ie Is it higher pitched when in a lower gear, for the same speed? If it's road speed, you can (generally) say it is something after the output shaft of gearbox.

Haven't worked on a DIII yet, but the first thing I would be checking is the oil levels in the gearboxes and diffs front and back.

hello there are you sure its engine related

how many miles has the car done

it may be a wheel bearing or output bearing on the transferbox or even a rear diff all items that are common on a d3 hope its not a transferbox as there back ordered with landrover atm the last one we ordered it was ment to take 2 months

Is there an inherent fault with d3 xfer boxes then?

well i reckon weve fitted 10 or so now and none of the cars have exceeded 70,000 miles

expensive though i think there about 1500 quid not like a d1 transferbox box hey 100 quid !!!!

I pretty sure I have the same problem, engine and vehicle are running really well, but have this subtle whining noise coming from the engine bay. It is there whether in motion or stationary - increases with depression of the accelerator pedal. Was gone for a short while after replacing the gearbox fluid and adding 2 tubes of Dr Tranny, but came back again. Sounds like a bearing whine of sorts - but that's just speculation at this stage. Anyone had this issue out there? Would love to hear from you if you can pinpoint it and provide a solution!
