Disco 3, or stick with the Disco 2?

one of the lads that work s for us has an 07, costs him a bomb in fuel, just had handbrake sensor done and a wheel bearing no change out of £1100.00.
nice to drive, but not so good on the debit card!! besides i think they look like a big Ford connect van!! lol

D3s are not as complicated as people think, though they have to be looked after as they wont tolerate being run into the ground like a d1
 
I would recommend you go for it, they are so much more comfortable and refined than the D2.
If you could afford it though, I would suggest you keep the D2 on the side as I did.
I find the D2 inspires more confidence over the rough stuff and on extended trips as it just feels like it can take it whiles the D3 feels "more fragile" to me.
The D3 is not really a DIY kind of vehicle as the D2 is (take a look under the bonnet and you'll sort of understand) and is a bit more expensive to service as I recently found out when the fuel delivery pump suddenly died. There aren't that many parts for it floating out here so that had to be a dealership job. Whiles it was in there, they had to sort out some worn bushings or something of the sort to correct wheel camber etc. etc. Cost more on the purse than anything ever done on tbe D2 but still love it to bits.
 
Well, 10 months in to D3 ownership and I am glad I moved. Yes it has had tyres, front discs and pads, rear pads, anti roll bar bushes and links, fixed the sunroof leak, also chasing a noise I replaced both front wheel bearings with Timken ones for £100 each, the noise was the front diff which got rebuilt for £350.
So overall so far I am happy and anyone looking at moving up should do so if they feel they have found the right vehicle.
But, still wish my D2 was around as a toy!!!
 
I guessed you be well pleased with D3 ownership . My brother had 2 D3's now has D4 ! Goes 3 or 4 times a year to Southern Spain for hols plus travels all over Uk in car ! Touch wood since he's had D3/4s only prob he's had we're punctures & a head on collision with a Focus in slow motion on ice lol. I'm the poor relation with D1's, Tdi & V8 but love them ;-)
Get a cheap D1 for toy @ w/ends ! It'll make getting back in D3 on Monday even more pleasurable lol.

Hi, I have looked at a couple of D1's and some more online and for around the £1000 mark they all seem to be a bag of c#¥p!!!
Rusty arches, boots etc. Actually thinking I would be better off with something I had before my D2, a Jeep GC for the off road toy!!!
 
Know what you mean ! Had a play in a Jeep GC ! Very capable, very comfy, and won't end up a pile of dust at the end of a good pay n play day. Plus you can pick them up pretty cheaply now.
Got to say though ! I bought my '96 300Tdi for £1000 !! Was really lucky though, it's solid as a rock ! Flew through MOT, probably because it spent most it's life on Jersey and was well looked after. Pain in arse to insure because it's classed as an import !!!! Just another excuse to charge more.
