Haha...it makes you wonder why anyone bothers with new Landies!
At the end of the day, you'll always hear the horror stories on forums (as forums are generally for problem solving)...no one really makes a thread saying "I've got a problem - It works!"
I had the option of going for a FFRR/RRS/D3/Puma 110.
My scenario was as follows:
Needed to tow (both on Motorways and across muddy fields)
More Comfortable than my 90
Enough space for Golf Clubs/Dogs/Equipment
Not be a Chelsea Tractor or have a Towny image - X5, Q7 etc etc
In all fairness I discounted the RRS, as I don't really like the image it portrays, although great motors.
The FFRR on the other hand, lovely vehicles, but I'd have wanted the TDV8 and I think it's a tad OTT for what I wanted it for. Depreciation is a big shock as well. I wanted it for work purposes as well.
In the end it was between the 110 and D3.
The Puma - Still not great for comfort, but lots better than the previous Defender. Could I justify spending £20k+ on a Defender when for the same sort of money I could buy a high spec D3? Although they don't depreciate as much.
The D3 - Has 7 Seats, doesn't have the "look at me" image, extremely comfortable, unbelievable towing capabilities, looks good in all scenes imo of course, prices seem to hold well (if you don't buy new).
At the end of the day they all have their pro's/cons/issues...it boards down to what you will use it for.
