Hi well here goes my first post , so I will start from the beginning the water pump on my 200tdi disco had been dripping for a few week so I bought a new pump but never got round to fitting it so I was just topping up every week with a small amount of water , then a few weeks back the disco got stolen and believe it or not got a call from Essex police last week to say that they had recovered it and that it had been used in at least 5 caravan thefts , when I had it home and started to go through what they had trashed ( steering lock , door cards, immobiliser, drivers door lock e.c.t.) and noticed that the water pump had finally given up and the whole lump was covered in the tell tale ginger water stains of over heating and water loss , so it seems that they ran the disco until it over heated and then abandoned it , so I was thinking cracked head or head gasket gone at least , so now to the problem after fitting the new water pump , then bleeding the air out of the system I then did a head gasket/cracked head test ( with a air tester ) nothing so I then took it for a drive done 40 miles , runs fine no loss of power , no overheating , no white smoke from the exhaust , no water in oil /oil in water / heater working fine but there seems to be loads of pressure at the header tank every time I stop and open the bonnet I can hear it squealing and see steam coming from the cap ??? but as I say its not overheating and I am not losing water anywhere else ??? any thoughts :fighting:

it is if you have steam escaping from header tank ,is rad hot allover core surface ,top hose hot ,temp guages dont allways show exact temp till too late ,is the cab heater blowing hot or cold ?

Hi thanks for the reply , just changed the thermostat and been for another drive and the header tank is still bubbling over , the heater is not right blew cold for about 10 minuets then hot for about 1 then went luke warm , the rad is hot all over with no cold spots and the top rad hose is hot as well ? but its running fine apart from the header tank throwing water out ?

Dont know about cyl head cant help there .All i can say is that when i changed my water pump as the bearing was on it way out it took ages to get the air out of the system properly with cab heater being the only real symptom of the air lock.

Fill the system with the brass/plastic caps off to help bleed the air out, if that doesn't do it try changing the pressure cap?
Good luck
