Disco 2 temperamental interior lights.

Good evening, it's a newbie here.

I am the happy owner of a Discovery 2 TD5. which has served me well for the last 12-13 years with the usual Land-rover issues for which I have frequently visited this forum to seek out valuable advice & info.

I have managed to sort most issues, but there is one problem that does not go away.

For a few months at a time everything is fine, then one day the interior lights will just stop working for the next few months.
Then randomly they will just start working again and continue for another few months. This is a cycle I have just lived with but the time has come (if possible) to sort it.

When the lights are not working, to be specific, they will come on & go off by using the switch on the light unit, but they do not come on when a door opens, or when the ignition is switched off.

I usually manage to sort things out in the end but have no idea where to begin with this.

I was wondering if it could be anything to do with the standard self irrigation system from the front sunroof?

Any ideas & advice gratefully received.

If I need them I put them on by hand!!
But it is likely to be damp TBH.
Which would account for the on/off variation of this.
There is a thread on this recently where @sierrafery gives good advice to another geeza who has come up with his own old skool workaround. @sierrafery 's is more sophisticated.

I agree that it is not too big an issue & I have had the issue for years, looks like a common problem.
I was hoping there might be a common solution. It does not seem to follow any pattern related to the weather, which would seem probable if it is just damp.

Disco 2 - Retrofit to get interior lights working

Noticed the interior lights had stopped working a few weeks ago. Spent some time and neck ache checking the wiring from the BCU, decided the BCU was probably at fault and not switching to ground. Decided to do a courtesy door switch installation .......... was not to concerned about lights...

Thanks for pointing me in that direction, I think it might be a 'get round to it' job. I have looked at a couple of other posts now & will be having a go at the simplest most obvious things to tweek.
