When it runs are your water hoses rock hard if you try to squeeze them?
When it's cold!!!!!!!!!!!, remove the expansion tank top and have a good sniff in the tank. Can you smell diesel?
Do you see any white smoke from the exhaust pipe?
Does the temperature guage rise into the red, or sit near to it?
Does your heater only blow out cold air when you have it set to warm and the engine is up to temp?
Does the cooling fan run after you've stopped the engine?
If you are getting water into the cylinders it sounds like you have a head gasket problem.
Any garage can confirm this by clamping a widget onto the expansion tank which then sniffs for combustion gasses in the coolant.

Must be a lot else wrong with it if you can't be bovvad to change a head gasket!
At that price I'd do it without thinking twice! Provided the chassis wasn't a rust bucket.

I'm often balled at for buying tools i never use, or buying a second copy or even third copy of a tool i already have, but i don't think i'd want one of those. It would only confirm i'm gonna get a BIG bill!
I'd rather go and visit my cousin at his garage and have him confirm that sort of thing for me. And then pretend the pi$$ taking is really sympathy...

Wifey is only too pleased I buy tools! she can see it is a heck of a lot cheaper than paying garage bills. She and the rest of the family expect to buy me tools for Xmas and burfdays!

2 front window regulators a good under shulz havent long passed mot
Well, if it was me I'd be keeping it and doing the head gasket.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Then i'd do the chassis treatment, then the windows.
But then I have done all these jobs before, several times!
All depends on your level of skill/experience/health.
Mind you, at the price you paid for it, even with a dodgy head gasket you ought to make a profit.
One owner? 88k?
Pffft!

Then i'd seriously be looking at getting the head gasket fixed.
Mine went over Christmas last year. I supplied all the new parts and for the actual work and getting the head pressure tested i was charged £450. Head skim was £100.
The total bill for parts and labour was £756.56
I don't recommend using any Britpart parts!
£32 of the parts was for a new water pump. It ruled out a possible cause of the gasket going in the first place plus it's a lot easier to change with the head off.

Here's the breakdown of what it cost:
