Hi all. Can anyone help or shed advice for adjusting the steering box. Problem is when i brought my landy i noticed the steering was tight to the point where when driving straight and you steer the car will stay in that steering position until you pull it straight again. I assumed that it nay be tracking but tracking checjed and two years of no silly tire wear eliminates that. I have checked and or replaced most ball joints in my ownetship etc and it only leaves steering box.

you can loose it with adjuster on the top ,box needs to be central and input shaft rocked by hand so you can feel free play just eliminated

Adjust
1. Loosen lock nut on steering box adjuster and
tighten adjuster until movement is removed at
universal joint.
CAUTION: Ensure that steering box is
centralised before adjustment. Never over
adjust, free play should just be eliminated.
2. When adjustment is correct, hold the adjuster
and tighten adjuster locknut.
3. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock and check
no tightness exists.
4. Fit drag link to drop arm, and tighten nut to 80
Nm (59 lbf.ft).
5. Remove stands and lower vehicle.

the procedure is the same the other way around too.... if the steering looks tight

Thanks for this quick response. I will give this ago this weekend. Does it sound like it could be this in your opinion. I have got used to driving it like this but work collegues who drive it said it feels dangerous as it doesnt pull straight that is to say it doesent pull left or right but when your put a slight steer on it stays there and you have to physically turn steering wheel back to straight ahead position.

yes, it seems it's overtightened...people used to do that if there is excessive play in it... IMO the steering box is worn and when u loosen it u'll feel that ...let's hope i'm wrong
