hi all i done a conversion back in september stuck a disco 2 body on a 300 tdi chassis running a 300 tdi all instruments work well i use disco every day no probs
i had a great deal of help from SIERRAFERY with the wiring ect cant thank him enough

i have a problem with front back screens not working and mirrors i have checked all fuses for fronts and back screens all ok and power at both sides of fuses
when i push the switch for them to come on theres a little tell tail light on the switches that should come on to show power on i cant get any them to work or come on so screens dont defrost
anyone any ideas
regards
mike
???????????????????????/

Hi mate, just to clarify, answer to the following questions:
1. non of the two screen heater switches is illuminating?
2. did you cut any wiring in the engine bay other than what was connected to the engine?(i forgot since we worked on that vehicle)
3. tell me exactly which fuse from which fusebox did you check
4. do you have a spare interior fusebox?...if yes replace that to be ruled out, disconnect the battery before the swap then after reconnection turn ignition to 2 and let it 5 minutes

hi bud
hope alls good

1 theres a small light on the switch which lights up when pressed to on position to let you know the screen is heating
2 never cut anything in engine bay except what was to be spliced ect
3 fuse 8/ 30amp under steering wheel for heated rear window and mirrors
engine compartment fuse box fuse 7and8 heated front screen
4 i will check am not sure if it was dumped

regards
mike

At number 1 i was asking about those small lights on the buttons if they are coming on or not when you push the switch so confirm are these coming on?

check fuse 13 in the under dash fusebox

Do the switches illuminate with the dash lights? If not it could be a common earth

I think there must be no power from the fusebox, RAVE has wiring diagrams. If power is definitely leaving the correct fuse but not getting to the switch / relay there must be a break in a wire

Is the aircon control unit still in place? if yes and it has power push the defrost button on that see if the lights on the heater buttons come on then or not...if no joy i'll make you a plan to rewire those systems cos you know how to work with the wiring now :) ... untill then jiggle connector C0067 to make sure it's not some bad contact in it

you'll have to make some measurements on the circuit....i'll come back tomorrow with the plan, i think you remember how to work with the wires after you rewired everything there ;)

Unfortunately, the little "tell-tale" lights built into the switches (in keeping with almost all the other switches in the D2) don't show that the actual circuit is being powered, they just show that the BCU "thinks" it has sent the operating voltage to the relay which then switches the circuit.

The relay for the front screen heaters is R8 on the engine compartment fuse board and the relay for the rear screen heater is unfortunately built onto the IDM on the back of the passenger's compartment fuseboard.

It seems that there might be something with(or untill) the BCU as it's the only one involved in both systems, you'll have to remove the glovebox and get to the BCU connetor C0660 and measure voltage across pins 11(-) and 13(+) without disconnecting it cos that's the feed for the HRW and HFS circuits

Ok as soon as I can get to it will let you know
