Not been on here for years and that's because I have not had a Landy for yonks now!

My last was a early Disco 2 which replaced my beloved D1 300tdi. They both suffered from serious chassis corrosion.

On my travels today, I spotted two Disco 2 TD5s for sale on a forecourt. One was on a 03 plate and the other a 53 plate. I was a little surprised when I looked underneath and saw that both were in need of a lot of welding.

Are there many good ones out there or is this what I should expect of D2s? Come to think of it, they're quite sparse on the roads these days. A Defender doesn't fit the bill as I need something capable of motorway journeys so not quite sure what options I have these days!

Search and Ye shall find,

But be prepared for a lot of searching and unless you are lucky if the owner knows it is a good one they can get expensive.

Cheers

I've just sold 2 tdi 300s, now left with the Td5....

Nothing good to say about the persitant rust issues, these damn things where injected with rust on the production line!

It's a shame as the ones I saw were mint everywhere else but shocking underneath. It's as if they're plagued with it.

I am driving around in a trusty saloon car at the moment but I've always been a 4x4 person at heart but come 2017 where D1s & D2s have extinction on the horizon, I've yet to find anything suitable. The D3 scares me and £500 tax = No thanks.

The jap wagons/terrorist mobiles don't appeal to me either. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

D2 chassis are rarely terminal, we've got three V8's and even the oldest, built Nov 1998 passed its MOT this year.

Plenty of chassis sections around and it isn't too much of a problem to fix, and if done properly will keep the vehicle on the road another 5-10 years. Nothing is more repairable than a D1 or D2.

I've got a good spare chassis as well, just in case!

+1. D1, its the body that rots, D2 its the chassis (!!) - no doubt due the bean counters at LR screwing up bigtime

Both are available re-imported from japan with no rust, but quite a price tag - ( worth it though ) - should last for ever if looked after.....:)

D2 is easier to re-chassis than D1 is to de-rust the body ( and I mean properly, not some half arsed attempt ). If you can stand electronics, then get a D2, otherwise D1. Simples :):)

Not all D3's have the higher tax. Pre March 2006 and it's the same as the D2 £295
