I misunderstood that it's D2 instrument pack o_O

Ok. See if you have +12V on C222-2, if not connect ignition live to that wire... if there is power insert earth with a wire for test into C207-2... can you see the ABS warning this way?

Ive wired in the clock from the disco 1 remember ?so no amigos no abs no srs lights its a 1996 disco 1 two door van chassis.i dont have abs or ebd . I believe Land rover were pioneers of traction control but it would be a few years later. This gets confusing alright.
YES please do explain how to emulate the warning lights ignition self test

YES ABS warning light on

OK, you mean it comes on when you give earth to C207-2?
1. the D2's ECUs are all on the vehicle and working?
2. the connectors/wiring for the D2's instrument pack which was removed are still there within reach?
3. can you identify yourself all the D1 cluster's warning light inputs based on the diagram?

Yes I have a complete , unmolested 2004 (as it was running before engine removal )disco 2 body into which i am wiring a disco 1 instrument cluster,
when i run earth to c207-2 the ABS warning light comes on.

This thread would be so much better with pictures....

done got the body of last night took engine and box out this morning just to give more room I have laid a body on as a template to see what fits and what needs sorting all body mounts mate up the rear ones on the d1 chassis sit lower so needs a spacer made up and a bigger bolt I can see the rear bumper needs minor work to sort the as you mentioned the undr side mounts the 4 tie down seatbelt ones and differ but easy to make some mounts weld on sorted I would like to speak to someone who has already done this I woiuld like to know how they put throttle pedal in and also couple other issues but all in all seems simple

The D2 dash(speedometer, tachometer, warnings) will not work for the 300tdi engine cos it works with PWM signals from the Td5 ECM, you'll have to transplant the instrument pack and wire it to the engine and fusebox but let the rest of the wirings in situ(except the engine harness) as to have lights, indicators, door locking, windows, wipers, washers, heater, etc.... that seems simpler than the other way around, or if you want to keep the engine too transplant just the chassis to the D2 and keep the rest as it is
IMG_0324.JPGIMG_0325.JPG I agree this does seem the best and simplest way to go when connecting a 300 tdi engine into a Disco 2 wiring loom.
As you can see ,physically, the instrument cluster and binnacles are interchangeable (Disco 1 top of pictures )

Then splice into the white/pink wire of the D2's C0233-10 and connect that to C207-2... if the ABS light comes on then off you can split from this WK wire to all the other warning lamps... if nothing happens means that the BCU misses the IP's data link so you'll have to use a 5 second delay off relay to switch earth to all the warning lamps on ignition then cut it after max 5 seconds as to emulate theyr's ignition self test.... you didnt answer to question 3 so i presume you can find the inputs yourself, if not just ask

Yes Indeed, I now have the ABS warning light coming on and then off a few seconds later. Fantastic. Thank you.
I should be able to identify the other lights from the haynes wiring diagram.
I Wonder can you tell me which other lights would normally come on and off along with the ABS warning light. ?

I think on a manual 300tdi the SRS should do a self test but i'm more a D2 man i have not much personal experience with D1s albeit i have no ideea what will that vehicle be considered at a MOT station and even though that ABS warning is working the system will definitely not work with the 300Tdi engine be aware of that

That's great, I'm actually in Ireland the test here is called NCT. They have a centre's dedicated solely to this. I have a friend working there He said it goes entirely on the chassis number of the vehicle, and if it matches the documents (which it does) I need to "change the body plan"on the documents from van to saloon. And if it has airbags (which it now does) it needs the SRS light to come on and off.
Land Rover sold lots of vans in Ireland (Disco 1 and 2) as it was easy to get these on commercial tax.
The difference between commercial tax Euro 333 and Domestic Euro 1100 (thats not a typo)is quite substantial.
my 1996 chassis will be 30 years old in 2026 and qualify for Vintage tax of Euro 56. Here's to 2026.

For the SRS try with the same wire like for ABS into C223-5 just check to have ignition live in C223-1, if no joy in 223-5 try in 223-3 or in both pins 3-5 at the same time(i dont know exactly how the D1 SRS ECU works)

I cant locate C223 It looks to be part of disco 1 wiring loom, at the rear of the instrument cluster?
On closer inspection of the Disco 1 manual, the instrument cluster diagram has "with SRS and without SRS" pathways. Im wondering if i even have the bulbs now, But not to worry I can connect up several lights to go on and off which im going to attempt today.

Yes, these are from the D1's electrical troubleshooting manual which is what i'm using, IMO Haynes diagrams are not human friendly at all
