Very interesting video filled with information which, even as an experienced driver, I wasn't aware off how significant the difference can be.

Cheers...

So, is that video not conclusive proof of the value of winter tyres during winter?????

UK drivers are just not used to the concept of having a summer set and a winter set of tyres.

They will argue that it costs more money, money they can't afford. Well, if you just think about it for a second you'll see it costs little or no more than have one set.

For example:Mr average drives 15,000mls pa going to work and back, shopping and general running around.

He does 7500 miles between 01/04/ and 01/10 and 7500 between 01/10 and 01/04. So the same mileage.

So he does 7500 mls on his summer set and 7500 on his winter set, so what is the financial effect?

He has to have two set of wheels (2nd hand Disco wheels £100) and he has to lay out for the winter tyres.

As you can see the 15,000mls is spread between the two sets so no extra cost for the tyres, just the wheels.

What are the advantages? Huge increase in safety and security.

So to summarise, Winter tyres are not just about driving on snow or ice - they are about driving in cold weather ie 7°C and lower.

it makes you think, more to tyres than you thought,
but you wouldn't of give it a 2nd glance in June!( maybe this year with all the rain we have had) i have 2 spare alloys maybe should get 2? front or rear?

If you really are worried get some winter tyres on.
I started useing tjem on my company car 2 years ago and they are a world apart in the winter and they are forcasting the worst in 100 years.
I drive around 1000 miles a week and at this time of year I wouldnt be without them.

Im not sure how the Disco will be as it has Insa Turbo Traction Trac tyres on but if they give problems then I will be changing them.

Do what I do just keep with the tyres the disco1 was supplied with by LR, my Goodyear Eagle GT+4 a perfect all season tyre I never had a problem in the last real snow I saw in 2010/11.

Also never had a probem with the Mitchelin tyres fitted by LR to my RRC in the snow of the late 80s early 90s.

It's all down to your driving skills on snow which a lot of drivers lack nowdays due to the lack of snow they would say no doubt. :D

Tyre pressures would be ok as low as 20 psi or even 10 if you aint flying down motorways.

try 15 if you are just plodding about, easy enough to put some more in if not happy.
