I have had one go on each side in the last three months, they break at the fusion weld where the rubber bush is, not off roading, they go when there is a severe dip in the road on one side. On inspection it looks like only half of the tube has ever been welded, you can see clearly the metal that has broken but the other half is surface rusty to me indicating that it has never been welded. Can anyone tell me the reason for them breaking i e is there something worn that puts pressure on the panhard rods. many thanks

Mine have taken some real abuse over the years and they actually tend to bend before the friction welded spigot snaps off.

If your's snapped or sheared then it will have been a case of years of fatigue rather than abused off road.
 
Had one snap once, driving suddenly got very exciting.........
Just old and rusty loads out there from all those knackered rustbuckets and easy to change get a stock in.
