Hi all i have a problem with my disco 1 1996 300tdi, the ignition comes on as normal but when i try to crank it it dose nothing it sounds like there is a relay kicking in but nothing elce? The key fob fore the alarm works central locking ect. Any ideas any one????????????????

thanks for the advice i will check all the plugs. i can start it by buypasing it and putting power straight to the starter via a switch but is not ideal. ive tryed a new ignition barrel but there was no change.

Possibly a dumb question, but have you tried locking it & then unlocking it with the remote?

All the Discos I've ever had have done this at least once or twice.

But if you think that's bad try Jeep, I've just unloaded a 97 grand Cherokee, 2.5td.
If you leave it more than a minute or two without either locking or starting it, when you restart it fires then immediately cuts out & you have to press unlock on the remote to reset. Add to that, that the starter won't work unless the clutch pedal is buried in the carpet & it's one of the most unfriendly vehicles to drive that I've ever owned, damn glad to see the back of it..

im still strugeling to get her to crank by the key. i thought that i might have a problem with the imobiliser so i bought a spider to buypass it, and still no joy, as i turn the key to the crank position i can hear the relays make a click wich sounds normal to me. as i said i have wired a seprate switch to the starter and it crankd no problem and runs fine. but its not the most ideal thing to have on. so has any one got any other ideas i could try?

Is it just a single click you can hear ? if so try wriggling the spade connector on the starter motor. Mine did this and had me pulling my hair out until an RAC man sorted it  Common fault.

is it the solenoid on the starter you can hear clicking, or a smaller relay in the passenger footwell clicking?
suspect the latter, in which case you need to investigate whether it has a spider or is controlled thru the mfu (multi function unit)
on the back of the injector pump, you either have 1 wire or 3 wires.
if 1, then its probably spider, if 3 then controlled thru mfu.

easies solution is find stater cable on ignition barrel, splice another to it and run that to starter solenoid.
