Dimmable low wattage spotlights

Hi all

I'm planning to add a pair of forward facing spotlights to the mirror areas of my 110 Utility. I like the idea of using low wattage lamps or LEDs so that they could be safely used with the engine off for a little while and otherwise be kind to the battery. I do however want them to be dimmable, i.e. low "Sidelight", dip beam level to supplement the normal headlights and of course the full brightness for working with or using them with the full beams. They would be operated on a seperate 4 position switch with a repeater light on the dashboard. May consider wiring them into the light switch and stalk though.

Can anyone recommend a Spot lamp or work lamp that would suit the above criteria and plans?

My landy indeed conforms to those standards among others. I would like to add a good looking and useful addition, something alot of enthusiasts tend to do.
 
You might be able to do something with a dim-dip relay. Wired up properly, this would mean the spotlights came on at low power with the low beams (and possibly side lights) and switched to full power with the high beams. Not sure how this would fit with the MOT test though.
 
Thanks for the responses guys, i do like those military search lamps, the way there mounted is certainly what i'm looking for even if a low wattage civilian version is what i may end up getting. I suspect i would need to get a beefier dim-dip relay for the extra lamps which i'm not sure on, i would therefore settle on having a stand alone setup, on researching it, the MOT is very questionable if they were part of the primary light circuit, i don't think any LED type is dimmable, atleast the ones i've found are not, will therefore look at low wattage filament lamps (atleast they have character when they come and off).

I dint think dipped is a good idea, I think the best you could hope for are marker lights. Bear in mind they will be misleading to oncoming traffic regarding the size of your vehicle.
