Freelander 1 Dilema - Td4 - Sell or Refurb !?

Got a perfect condition Td4 which (with fab maintenance) has done 185k reliably. Soon be time for new clutch, dual mass, engine out etc and have bought a 40k miler to use.

So - do I sell the old one ? ES with mint interior etc for market price knowing that no one - except us nutters buy such high mileage vehicles or do I get low mileage engine and box, new clutch and sell at top wack??

Just thinking??

Anyone got costs of taking a low mileage power unit and gbox to a garage and getting it fitted ??

I have no facilities to do the swap.

if it works fine then why get rid of it ???

such a car, providing you can fix it yourself, will owe you nothing yet will provide a reliable means of transport...............

If you put a low mileage engine in a high mileage car - it's still a high mileage car and will sell at that price.

At those miles every bush and ball joint will be shot. If you can do the work yourself it might be worth it but without the facilities you'll just be throwing good money after bad. Sell it as spares/repairs is the only sensible thing to do.

Depends on the year but others I've seen at that mileage are between £700 and £1k

I brought a 2002 200000 on the clock for £535 (clutch gone), it's only worth anything to me (to do up and keep) if I paid a garage to do an engine swap I reckon I'd lose money....So my opinion is to sell it and get what you can

I bought my 02 K series 120k miles for £280 cause the seller thought the head gasket was gone. Even doing the work myself I spent another £300 sorting all the issues and that is without having to do the HG (yet).
If you can do the work yourself older Freelanders can be great value but if not your probably best staying Japanese.
