Hi all,
Felt it was about time so joined and thought i would start right of the bat by asking all you experts for some assistance, cheeky i know, but.....
A month or two back i noticed this low level whine apparently from the rear somewhere and since then its slowly getting worse - well no better anyway. Its still at the stage where when you get above about 40mph its drowned by wind and road noise but at lower speeds and under load acceleration or deceleration its there, it comes and goes with engaging and disengaging the clutch so i am thinking its probably from the diff - guess it could be UJ's but there is no vibration.
This weekend i plan to pull I plan to pull the rear prop and half shafts and do some runs with the diff lock on to see if its still there, if it's vanished i guess i can safely say its a diff bearing, if its still there maybe the transfer box?
The oil looks clean under a finger dip test (just like it did when it was changed last year) but i but i have yet to drain it and look for evidence.
If the above makes sense and it proves to be the diff does the following parts list seem to cover it. Living in the Caribbean shipping parts is expensive so i need to do my best to get all i will need in one shot.
Diff parts list
Carrier Roller bearings *2
spyder gear thrust washer
inner pinion bearing
inner pinion bearing shim
filler plug washer
drain plug washer
outer bearing shim
outer pinion bearing
outer pinion bearing end washer
bearing retainer gasket
pinion oil seal
mud shield for drive flange
diff to axel gasket
cheers
steve
