Got myself a 110 last week and while checking it over noticed the oil in the diffs is very sludgy so I'm going to change it. Does anyone reccomend flushing them out or putting something in there to thin the sludge a bit in order for it to drain better?? I'm thinking what's the point of new oil if half the sludgy crap is still in there??

Drain it, fill with some ATF, go for a drive and drain again. You could maybe save on the cost by using the same ATF in both axles. Some 'engine flushes' say that you can use them in gearboxes and axles. You will have to check on the pricing.

Take it for a bloody long drive first to warm oil before draining or better still wait for a hot day (Fat chance!)

You could save yourself a few quid by going for a drive to get it hot, draining one, refilling with fresh EP90 (not sure about the sticking ATF in it???), go for another drive, drain it again but keep the EP from it. Drain the other & refill it with the EP90 you used to 'flush' the first diff. Top the first one back up (obviously), go for another drive, drain the second, discard the EP from it, refill, job done..............er, if that makes any sense?

Thanks folks yeah that all makes sense. Just for the record the manual says ATF for the main gearbox and ep90 for the diffs, transfer box and swivel housings.

That's right!
Try and get hold of a 500ml syringe ,makes filling a lot easier, some swear by one shot grease for the swivels but that's another debate!!!!

Top tip! Undo yeh filler before you drain then you know you can get your oil back in & if you aint got one you will need a torx 4 (i think) for the gearbox filler that you can get from difflock or similar!!;)

Yeah wot they all said about draining when it's hot, I don't like the idea of running with a flushing oil in 'cos, and this is only my personal thoughts, the flushing oil will free up all manner of ****e as it's supposed to do, but will then wash it all round the bits that don't want all manner of ****e washing round them. To fill the diffs I use a piece of hose our Myrtles kitchen funnel and a workmate bench thing.

I meant to use the ATF as a sort of flushing oil for a few miles until the diff gets warm enough to drain the oil completely. Don't worry about the ****e, this is a diff, not a watch. Better get the ****e out!
