Hi, I am having some issues with the diff lock and was hoping you guys could help me diagnose it. defender 110 1995 300tdi
Last week my clutch fork finally gave out and needed to get a new one. I brought the truck to a shop by my house (not a land rover specialist) to get the job done since i didnt have the tools to bring down the transmission and thought that this was a straight up job that any ok mechanic could do. last night when i went to pick it up I realized that they had it in diff lock for some reason and the light was off which i found odd (the light always worked before), i moved it to the regular high position out of diff lock but the car felt heavier than before almost as if the emergency break was on but i wasnt since it would roll downhill slowly. in flat ground, before i took it to the shop i could leave it on 1st and the truck would crawl slowly, when i picked it up yesterday it wouldn't crawl at all like as soon as i lift my feet of the accelerator you could feel the engine struggle and start to vibrate. I also feel some vibrations coming from the transmission when going in low gears. I started to play with it when i got home just to try find out if the diff lock was still on, when i put it on diff lock i can definitely feel the difference when doing a u turn but if i go to neutral half thru the turn i get kind of a recoil push as if something would make the car stop slowly and literally push it back for half a meter. when i moved the diff lever to the regular position I dont fully feel as if the tire are fighting each other like it does on diff lock but it doesn't feel fully free and if i do reverse you can feel like a bump coming from the back. Also when normal driving and make a turn i feel if the steering wheel is fighting me to go back to the straight position, no idea if that could be related. also found out a lose cable over the transmission that looks like the one that goes to the dash diff light was disconnected

the clutch feels great just bites pretty high.
I am planning to do the front wheel test tonight when i get home.
Sorry for the long post, just trying to find out what it could be and be as direct as possible to the mechanic when i take it back.

Thanks!

What part of America are you in Chris ?

Do you know where the diff lock lever is on the LT230 (transfer box) ?
Have you removed the lever and used a spanner to turn it on and off ?
Are the wires connected to the diff lock switch (green and black) ?

It's likely that this was all disconnected when the clutch was done, and 'possibly' not put back right.
