diesel to petrol wiring

I have a 1962 Series 2A under restoration and the wiring is doing my head in. Somewhere along the line, one of the 13 previous owners swapped the diesel engine for an LR petrol one, and there's various wires that appear surplus to requirements.

The vehicle is now negative earth and has a couple of temperature senders on the block but no temperature gauge on the dash. What I'd like to know is the following:

Which diesel engine wiring can I safely remove?

Which of the two temperature senders can I use to control an electric cooling fan? (I take it one of them goes to a gauge).

Any thoughts on the matter gratefully received.

buy a new front loom, they int that expensive and better than trying to rip out some wires and fixing round 23 years of bodges.. as fer your fan i don't think any of the sensors on the block will do as they will be progressive and not a simple on/off switch like wot you need fer a fan.. get your self an adjustable temp switch .. ther has bin a few posts covering leccy fan fitting . try a search for electric fans by yella

Slob is dead right as usual.
The temp senders are teperature sensitive high value resistances, and the leccy fan wouldn't think about running if connected through them.

Get a temperature operated ON/OFF switch. Discomania's Def90 uses a rad switch from a SAAB 99, and as it happens, two SAAB 99 rad fans as well. He could send you a photo but he's in Mercanland just at the moment.

Bit spooky you should mention Saab...it's an electric fan from a Saab 900 I've fitted. I have the switch from the Saab radiator, but I've been holding off from cutting a hole in the 2A's radiator in case there's another option.

As I won't be towing, I thought I might get away with a temperature gauge and a manual switch for the fan on the dashboard

You're spot on. Just connected a battery and immediately got smoke from the ignition switch and behind the dash

Looks like the fan is the least of my concerns now...
