Diesel starvation in hot weather

I have a 96 defender which during warm weather will just die as if the ignition switch has been turned off. Await of between 5 and 15 minutes is required before it will then restart. No one seems to know what causes this. I wonder if the solenoid which actuates stop is perhaps duff. Any thoughts?
The recent hot weather has been dificult although the fault varies in terms of timing.

When my stop solenoid was dodgy it sometimes wouldn't stop the engine and I had to stall it each time I parked, but at that time I once had the engine suddenly cut out, it started after it had a 5 minute rest in a lay-by. Depending on the engine, replacement is an unneccessarily awkward job!

Thanks for the tip, any ideas on how much a solenoid unit costs?

Can't remember the cost of the solenoid. Of course it could be a dodgy injector pump and you may want to have that looked at while everything is out of the way to get at the solenoid. Pump is horrendously expensive to renew or refurbish (I think I was quoted in the £400 range) so try the solenoid first!

It may also be worth checking that there isn't a loose wire in the electrics, although in my limited experience that is less likely to cure itself by having five minutes to cool off.
