Diesel pump leaking

ok seen the videos of how it is done tryed to do it yesterday with bosh seal kit got it all back together and it leaks striped it back down to find the new o ring destroyed have been told to use a viton o ring we’re to get one from and what size do I need to get

You did it wrong then. All new seals kits should be Viton. The original seals fitted do not like the additives in modern diesel.

Not surprised. I was playing with diesel at the weekend. The old stuff actually felt oily on your fingers. The modern stuff is more like petrol. I kept sniffing it to make sure I was dealing with the right stuff. very strange.

There are Bosch pump seal kits on eBay for around £15-£20. That's where I got mine from anyway. Same pump on Rangie, Omega, BMW, some Volkswagens.

I agree. Modern diesel with no sulphur and a lot of bio, is a very dry fuel, which doesn't lubricate pump internals like it used to.

I always use a lubricity additive, like Eco Max, in older engines.

That's a good tip. Can you feel the difference with your fingers? I don't think there's much lubrication in the diesel I put in: it was bog-standard ESSO stuff. i don't want another FIP failure.

Eco max is incredibly slippery, and you can feel it between your fingers. I don't think that is recommended, though, it is probably pretty toxic.
It also adds a few cetane numbers to the fuel, so you should get good MPG.
And it isn't that expensive, due to the high dilution that is used.
Some people mess around with 2 stroke oil, I have not seen good results from doing that, I have never seen how it would match up to a purpose designed product.

Other excellent fuel additives are available.

The new seal was green colour have tryed again today with another one checked all round pump and it was sat in grove nice cairfuly did it up so it went in nice and square and still leaking from there so it’s somebody it again Amy idias what am I getting wrong with it

Could be wear on the shaft where the seal has been riding on it.

There is no shaft to wear. It is the O'ring seal pressure head to pump body.

Fair enough, hadn't been following it. I assumed it was round a rotating shaft.

If it is well lubed up and carefully fitted it should be a simple task.

You need to use long bolts to avoid bolt threads stripping the o-ring.
I have used it with no issues.( No affiliation)

Second attempt tomorrow striped it back down ready can only think it didn’t go in perfectly squere when I tightened it up but I did do each bolt a bit at a time trying to keep it all squere will have got some bolts with smooth shanks to use really gutted it’s not gone right tryed so hard with it

Those pumps fight back. Getting it tightened up without movement is very hard, even when you've scored it on all sides.

Done the leak sent u message as have it up and running but still have a issue and liking for some help runs and starts revs ok until it touches tickover then it won’t rev

Tryed a different make o ring black one fitted and no leak at all running well now starts on morning better than it ever has done
