Diesel or V8/LPG, that is the question...

Help!,

very simply, which would be more economical £ per mile, my 2.5dse or a 4.6/LPG?

I am very mindful of fuel prices and economy as I do in excess of 20,000 miles per year.

Does anyone out there have a 4.6/LPG that might fancy a swop?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
You can't blame a man for trying rewmer!

A genuine enquiry about the economy though. I've fitted a PSI power box quite recently which has improved things (25mpg aound town and 32mpg on the motorway) but spending £120 per week on fuel does make me think!
 
I would be interested to know the comparison between the 2 engines before I commit to buying!

My reason for wanting diesel over LPG is purely based on economy, so if LPG is cheaper to run on then I may well opt for 1 of them based on the answers given:)

if you want ecomony as much as is possible and practability it has to be diesel ,you get to keep boot and spare wheel, its available everywhere ,which gas isnt ,running on gas i find myself constantly looking for garages that sell it on long journeys
 
Not much difference then Goodfella. You get 200 miles for £53 and I get 420 miles for £120, which stretches to about 460 on the motorway.

Should I stop moaning and stick with it perhaps?

Any more opinions, advice?
 
i have owned an lpg p38 then two diesels.Not a lot in it in miles per £s but much much less aggro with diesel.
 
I have heard there can be a bit more hassle with LPG: service costs, insurance etc. The more I think about this, the more I think I'll stick with the diesel!

I suppose the motto is if you're worried about economy don't run a Range Rover, diesel or LPG?!
 
As a long time 4.6 LPG conversion user, I think you have probably arrived at the right answer with the priorities that you have.

Although, my LPG set up has not been any trouble, it can have consequences for servicing, choice of insurer, Channel Tunnel etc. While GB was chancellor/prime minister I used to get a vicarious pleasure when filling up, thinking of all the tax I was denying him, but now even that pleasure has been taken away:5breddevil: - and the proportionate saving between petrol and LPG has been eroded. Back in 2005, I was filling up in ASDA and Morrisons for 29.9p/litre - a full 1/3 of the price of unleaded. Now I am lucky to find LPG at less that 75p/litre.



That said, personally, I wouldn't swap my V8!

That is about right and if you found the performance of a diesel less than adequate then you should have bought a sports car.Thats what i tell myself anyway.:D
 
This is just about £ per mile guys, so I think I will stick to the diesel. You're right greenslade, now that gas is 75p + it's not the no brainer it used to be. By the time I've sold mine, shelled out a couple of grand and upgraded to nice Vogue V8/LPG, divided the cost of that by the length of ownership of the vehicle, blah, blah, blah.
