Diesel Engine Cutting Out- Engine Jet wash

I thought I would treat the car to a full valet including the engine bay. So I called out Lellers... Did a great all round, but now the engine will start, but then stall, and when it does idle, it does, but then drops the revs ans stalls? The engine light which looks like a injector symbol is illuminated.
I am really in a bit of problem here- RAC won't come out as I have only taken out cover this morning, and to add to the problems I need to leave for Manchester in the morning...

Anyone got any ideas? :(Is it likely a recovery guy will be able to fix it?

I was concerned that the valeter did not cover any electrics when pressure washing the engine bay, he assured me that no water protection was required...
 
Did they use their little steam carpet cleaner anywhere near the drivers seat ? Lots of BECM's have fried from them.;)

Have you checked all the electrical connectors around the large fuel filter to the right hand side (if you are standing in front of vehicle) of the engine?? Not only that have you also checked the large multi plug for the injector pump?? Its kind of hidden so you will need to get a torch to check it, you can reach it by hand though.

Also just do a general check of all the engine bay, remember the fuse box is at the top left near the coolant tank, check that for any water ingress.

Lastly check the crank position sensor, well, check the connection to it hasnt been damaged. Its on the right hand side of the engine at the front of the bell housing. I think its above the starter motor if I remember correctly.

As for pressure washing the engine bay, why?! Did the guy have it on a low setting and gently do it or did he quite literally stick it on high and blast away?! If you have had any damage result from the valet I would try and get your money back and/or make them pay for any repairs.

Thanks for all the replies....
RAC bloke came around after much haggling...he just undid the fuse box cover and said he could smell a touch of electrical frying? He disconnected the battery and left. He said get it to a garage, let it all dry out and plug it into a computer?
Where is the connector to the injector pump?
I think he just blasted it full whack...the fuse board was soaked...

The valet company said they will come round Monday with a airline to blow the connections dry...what do you advise on this?
I didn't pay for the valet yet, i am going to have to rent a hire car tonight and send them the bill- or call it evens, but if it still aint working by monday then they will have to get it fixed!
Anyone clued up on the legal side of things?
 
contact the valeting company and tell them you will be sending them the bill for any repair work needed as a result of their neglect and incompetence.

The valeter didn't look like this did he

most valeting companies (at least locally) state that they dont recomend engine bay cleaning and it is at the owners risk and responsibility.
 
is it likely that the connections would dry out overnight- noting that the temps are low? Would it be worth doing?
I can't beleive the RAC gave up so easily- I personally may have had a go drying the connections with a "Mechanics"hair dryer or something...

When you say the fuse board was soaked, was it soaked inside?? As you know it has a lid to it and on the lid are 4 clips, the 4 clips once clipped in properly appear to hold the lid down pretty well on mine and I think the lid should seal the fusebox away from water. Whether the seal on the lid can keep out the full force of a jet washer I dont know :/ The RAC bloke saying the fusebox smelt of 'electrical frying' may be right but I know my fusebox smells kinda like burnt electrics when I remove the lid, the relays do get warm with normal operation so this can be the reason the for the smell.

The injector pump multiplug is underneath the intake manifold towards the front, its a kinda twist lock type connector thats round. You will definitely need a torch to see it if you haven't seen it before.

What year diesel is it?? Does it have the MAF sensor on the air intake?? Might be worth checking that as well. To be honest you really need to check every connection possible in that engine bay.

I certainly wouldn't let the valet company near the vehicle again, with an airline to blow the connections dry or not and whether its legal or not I certainly wouldn't pay them until everything is resolved and working 100% ok.

Got it to a local LR garage.... Fault on the rovacom shows Injector 4 fecked and a few other electrics also fried....About £500 quids worth of damage. Gutted. Will be sending the bill to Lellers for the lot. How can I claim for loss of days use of my car? Anyone here have any legal contacts or advice?

Most solicitors will do a cheap initial consultation some even do it for free. contact Citizens Advice they'll point you in the right direction.

I told the valet company Lellers that they have fecked up enough stuff on the car already- i don't need another "know it all" to make things any worse, bottom line is its getting fixed and they are going to pay for the bill. The MAF sensor will be checked tomorrow, they are drying out the fuse board tonight.

BTW it a 98 DHSE Auto( Autobiography?) they guys at the garage told me it has the newer sump without the gearbox dipstick and the older intake manifold (plastic).

I need to know if i can stipulate somehow that in the next 3 months if something fecks up related to electrical glitches due to this power washing of the engine bay, then they will still be liable to fix and rectify the problem. I need some help on this, any comments would be appreciated.!
 
PM Retsgom He's a fat useless gobby ****e who claims to be a Solicitor. Don't know if he still comes on here as we told him off last time he was on and he's spat his dummy.
 
any solicitor will write you a letter to them on your behalf, usually cost about £50 - he'll use lots of big expensive words - make sure you include a copy of the bill along will any supporting evidence showing that the faults were as a result of what they did

you've got zero chance of them paying upfront for the repairs, if they are a small company they will ignore the letter and probably vanish - if they value their reputation they will haggle and fight you for months and you may eventually get some money out of them
 
Called the valeter to day to let them know that I will be sending a bill for £622.64. This is what the cost has been to get it sorted.
Rovacom check
air flow sensor
injector / sensor assembly
3 hrs labour

Does this sound ok?
 
My mechanics hairdryer looks very similar to er indoors hairdryer, dunt go to the expense of buying a mechanics one they are just snide babyliss
 
As redhand said, sounds good! What was their response when you told them you were sending them the bill?? I guess from your reply they didnt tell you to fooooooork off??
