See Land rover service bulletin. NRR/86/14/95/EN. Dated 04/10/95. Reference battery drain (diesel versions only). Fit resistor kit STC3182 to diagnostic socket. :):):)
That's interesting Tony, I don't have that bulletin, I wonder what it does? Certainly it has not been done properly in the photo.:confused:

Don't know Keith, dragged it from deep memory. Kit is still listed by Rimmers although out of stock. £6.17 including the dreaded. Bit steep for a resistor. It maybe the biggest markup item in Land rover history. Beating the small left and right rear brake pipes by some margin. :):):)

I want to know how adding a resistor to one of the OBD lines is going to affect battery drain?
If I could download Ant's PDF I would be interested to have a look:)
 
So that line is an input to the BECM by the looks of it, on the petrol the cruise control ECU connects to it and the ABS ECU also connects to it on petrol and diesel as well as it being a diagnostic line. It looks like on the diesel without the cruise ECU the input is not properly terminated in the BECM so floats and is susceptible to electrical noise. The resistor provides a pull up current to provide a stable Hi signal level. Ought to be done in the BECM and I suspect it is on later model years.
 
MERCMAN If you want to set the Crank sensor and you do not have the special tool to do it. Remove crank sensor and bracket. Then turn engine by hand, using a torch and mirror line up one of the TDC pins in centre of the crank sensor hole. Fit crank sensor and bracket, push in until it sensor touches pin. Then back off approx 1 mm and lock bracket in place.
