Diesel diagnostics protocol same as Rover?

I have implemented a product which does (amongst other things) the EDC15M diagnostics protocol as used on Rover 25/45 diesel, and the EDC15C4 protocol as used on the Rover 75 diesel.

I am wondering if Landrover used the same protocols as Rover or whether they changed them?

If anyone lives near me (I live in Ruislip, west London and work in Hertfordshire) and would like to try it out I would love to hear from you.

The rules of this forum say that I am not allowed to publicise a commercial product on here which is why I have said very little about it. I hope I haven't stepped over that line. Maybe a moderator could let me know whether I'm allowed to say any more about it.

I dont see much of a problem if you're just looking to try it out but if the chat starts to go into development or marketing in any way then you'll need to PM accywingy to clarify your position as a commercial member.

If your kit is LR compatable then it'd be well worth your time doing so anyway.

Others may disagree with me in which case this thread could disappear. If it does, seeing you've had the courtesy to ask, I'll try and ensure you get a full explaination

Today I tried my diagnostic tool on an X reg Petrol Freelander with the MEMS 1.9 ECU and it worked perfectly.

I also tried it on a 2003 diesel TD4 and it worked perfectly. Read the owners reaction here

I also had a very positive reaction from an MG ZR owner (with the L series diesel). He had been to multiple garages to get the fault codes read without success and my tool was able to read and erase the code; however that doesn't mean that it will work on a Freelander L series.

Has anyone got one that I can try?

And if you need a code reader for a Freelander 1 petrol or TD4 you can go ahead and buy one to fund my Kickstarter project

How do they store info in the various computers? For example, we struggle to get to the Jatco auto computer (auto gear box) in our Freelanders. There are devices on the market that do it but few can actually get the live data. Most show corrupt data or wrong data. Only the main dealer kit seems to cope. Hawkeye can do it anorl. Are the variables stored in registers where you ask for a scan and receive the whole data block and pick out what you want to display, or can you ask for a certain register value or similar and retrieve that value? Unfortunately I'm too far away from you. Mines a kv6 petrol.

I haven't had access to a Jatco auto computer yet. Today I met a fellow with a Rover 75 with one who seemed up for some experimentation. Hopefully it's the same protocol. If I can crack this then I will, but I can see this one taking some time.

I also have a 75 Siemens EMS2000 ECU (KV6) in the boot of my car which I need to wire up and play with. I need to find some diagrams for the pinout of the ECU connector though.

There's a number of rave disks available from the link below which cover the repair of Land Rover products. They is free.

land rover rave technical system

rave01 = Range rover P38, Discovery 2, Defender 300tdi/Td5/v8, Freelander 1.8/td4/v6

rave02 = Range Rover P38 and L322, Defender 200/300tdi and v8

rave03 = Range Rover classic tdi/v8, Discovery 1995 onwards mpi/Tdi/v8, Freelander 1.8/L series

The rave disks download as .iso image files. After downloading them you need to use magiciso, 7-zip or winzip type programs to open them, to allow you to copy the rave folder out of the .iso image file.

I have a freelander 1 1998 diesel that im trying to find a code reader for it that works. I think mine is a l series and have been told it has the land rover engine not bmw one

This is an old thread now. I believe the OP is now known as Pscan.eu
I'm only guessing that, based on his MGF link.

A 98 Freelander will have the Rover L series engine. Many consider this to be the most reliable engine ever fitted to the Freelander, me included.
The Hawkeye is about the only off the shelf code that works with it. My Icarsoft I 930 doesn't fully link to all systems. So unless you are near Pscan.eu for testing his? The Hawkeye or LR are about your only options.

I know Philip (pscan.eu) well - and had my Freelander up with him on Saturday looking at the Teeves Mk20 TC/ABS/HDU, airbag ECU etc. Hopefully he can get this up and working. He's certainly got the MGFs very well covered now, and I think the Rover 75/ZT (which makes me happy, as I have an example of all these cars!)

I think Philip has the M47R diesel, Teeves Mk25 covered. He has the petrol 1.8 (MEMS1.9 and MEMS3 variants) and KV6 covered too. However, I don't think he has yet had a chance to look at an early FL with an L-series (the Rover/ Land Rover diesel) and the Wabco TC/ABS/HDC system.
