Did I buy a stolen landy?

Hello,

I bought a def 110 300 tdi in great condition. Unfortunately during the course of me buying the truck I didn't check the chassi number. 3 days after buying it,I decided to get that chassi area cleaned off to see the vin number and there's nothing there. I did an HPI check and it's all clear. I also have paperwork from the previous owner dating all the way to 2013..... Did I get burned?

I don't think the VIN number is on the chassis. There will be a chassis number stamped on it, unless it has been re-chassised, and the new owner didn't stamp it, or the area with the number has been replaced.

It is probably fine, but try and get the number stamped on.
 
^^^^ as nobber says, and if it's obviously been done after production it may look dodgy. I swapped my chassis for a galv one & kept the old dumbiron with the number stamped on (for proof of destruction) but it's just about legible. I presume you do have the vin plates on the brake pedal box and inside windscreen?
 
Do not stamp it yourself. Leave it if you have receipts etc.
Number should be in the off side front jacking point. Look there.

yes and yes. Unfortunately I am trying to import this vehicle to the states and I think that not having the chassi number is going to be a problem.......
 
Driver side.... am i looking in the right spot?

If you cannot find the Chassis number then I would question you being able to get it into the States.

I found using a bit of WD40 and scotch brite over the area , highlights the numbers if they are faint. Nut looking at the pics , they do not seem to be there. does it look like a repair panel?

I think I can see a bit of numbering - just towards the lower front of the area you have cleaned. I'd proceed with a small scraper in that area.
 
does any of the recepits say you have had either a new or repaired chassis?

As for stamping a chassis yourself I would not do it.

Having a company do it may be ok as long as they are using the same stamps as Landrover so on the inspection it may pass.
There are other year dates on some of the chassis/brackets which customs inspection may pick up.

(No I'm not telling you where they are)
