HI all, took my 2001 range rover in for a scan dash says TRACTION FAILURE, diagnostic expert tells me no fault code showing, need diagnostic 2 :( not shown any readout or printout just bill? A couple of days later I figure out I need a new battery, fitted this, no faults since, rings up to cancel DIA 2, phone goes dead? when guy comes back this is what he says' RUBBISH RUBBISH RUBBISH you ain't cured problem, I have been doing this for 20 years etc etc all you have done is reset everything, and you will be back in a couple of days or months once battery had settled down and I will do traction fault and blend motor at the same time? DON'T THINK SO??. This guy uses auto logic don't this system show up a battery fault? WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK. regards bob

blokes a prick i allways check then clear faults then scan again as its normal for most cars to have list of recorded faults due to low voltage issues, ecu can only read voltage so only knows if its within tolerance or not ,not wether sensors getting right info or battery low

That is one of the classic dodgy battery messages. If that bloke has been doing it for 20 years he's been ripping people off for 20 years:mad:

Not every fault logs a code, its the same on P38 diesels - when the coolant temp gets to about 110c the engine ecu will limit power output to prevent engine damage, but will not log a fault code to show it.

Hi Datatec' thanks for reply' If the guy is such an expert' you would think he would have thought to check the battery, me I know bugger all' and even I figured out that was the problem. BTW, maybe it would be a good idea, if there were a place to post?. Where folks could recommend GOOD or BAD experances-- services like mine, then you would know who to trust and who to not?? JUST a thought??. regards bob.

Hi eightinavee, I am not that clued up yet on RANGE ROVERS, but I know enough to realise not all faults show a code, but being an EXPERT?? you would think the guy would have though to check out the battery, as correct me if I'm wrong but if your battery's duff it will show all sorts of weird faults. THANKS for the advice, looks like I have a steep learning curve?? regards bob :D
