ive been banging my head against the wall trying to get the cruise control on- off switch that goes on the left hand side on the instrument panel

the only one i can get a part number on is in ash grey and goes in the middle of the dashboard.

the one im after is on the rave cd ref CO 749
and wish to get it in black.

have included a picture

would anyone be able to help me please, with a part number or possibly a spare switch please.

tried to talk to my own land rover dealer and they told me it doesnt exist, even though its in my owners manual and on the rave cd

had a look on the microcat and it only shows it in ash grey

thanks so much again guys

If it only shows grey switches when you input your chassis number.......... microcat selects your interior colour. so are you certain about your interior colour? do they call it ash grey even though it looks black?

To identify the part number for the one in the instrument panel rather than the one in the dash you will probably need the use of a chassis number from a vehicle fitted with the switch you want.

Also don't expect the images on microcat to be 100% correct even though the part number is.

Thanks so much for the reply

I've found out that from 2002 they converted the dashboard but ash grey to black

Land rover dealers have advised me its not available only the switch in the middle

Surely it must be available

Been trying to find some breakers but they as of yet haven't got anything

Cannot thank you enough
Hopefully something will turn up here

Hi Gary,
Nothing on fleabay at mo. There were a few of the early type around when I was looking - mine is the later type above the dash dials. (went to a dealer :()
Found these - Land Rover Discovery CRUISE CONTROL Switch & Brkt - NEW | eBay - they are disco paddles. (seem to remember my Rover set included both CC and Radio paddles and were cheaper than those?)
All of the Rover/LR group are all the same paddles with the same wiring, plugs etc. I used a set made for a rover 200/400 series on mine. May be worth searching the Rover sections on Fleabay - was quite a common extra on many models.
Had to make up a new bracket to get the switches positioned correctly and mounting holes in the steering wheel boss to line up tho'.
Any luck with the CC ECU yet?

thanks so much for the great info.

found the steering wheel paddle switches and the ecu

the headache im having is this dam dashboard switch

i had a thought i wonder as its only an on/off switch if another one of the switches ie, the fog light switch or another type would work.

im tempted to try it but concerned i may do some damage, as if it did work could use it until i may be able to find one in the breakers.

plus meant to say a breakers did get in touch and say they had a switch but it was £70.00 inc vat and postage, certainly not going to pay that for an on /off switch

thanks again guys

Looks like the outer button will unclip, use any new switch body then!
I can see four wires, is the switch illuminated? If so it may simply be an on off switch or a mommentry, does it latch in when pushed or just bounce out again? Any switch with the same action will possibly work in it's place.

hiya

the one in the picture is just a blank

however i borrowed the recurculating air switch from the middle of the dashboard as its an on /off switch.

tried it onto the cruise control wiring and put the igintion on, no light came up on the dashboard, but when i put a meter onto the cruise control plug thats underneath the seat got a 12 volt feed- when i turned the switch on and off the 12 v feed went on and off so i know that im getting a feed to the ecu plug.

dont know if there is a bulb in the instrument panel for the cruise control symbol, it looks like a motorway. or if i have to wait until the ecu is in

i was thinking as its going to be a nightmare to order the switch from the centre console that is a cruise control switch in grey and use it until i may find one in the breakers etc, but considerably cheaper than £70.00

just found an ecu on ebay but its for a v6 wonder if it would fit mine as ive now been quoted nearly £300 just for the ecu, but thats from a main dealer and i know when i looked ages ago they were just over the £100 mark.

thanks again guys

i just hope this works as i think there seems to be alot of interest to this subject

thanks again guys

hiya

just bought a steering wheel off ebay which had both the audio and cruise controls switch, my steering wheel was a bit worn and was going to get another one so it kills two birds with one stone.

Hi Gary,
Any locking 4 wire switch should be ok to test. The correct switch lights green at night and orange when the CC is turned on. The switch tops are interchangable. :):)

The dash CC led only comes on when CC is active (controlled by the paddles & ECU). The petrol's use a direct feed into the dash (the one I used), the Autos use a signal via the CAN bus. The dash has remained the same over the years so the direct feed option is there. :)

When I was looking the CC ECU's were around on fleabay @ £100 or less (£70 ish avg). There were two types, the later being offered as a direct replacement (need to check microcat). :scratching_chin:

When you have installed all of the OEM parts, I believe that you will need to get the Auto/Engine ECU's coded (enabled) to activate the CC within the Engine ECU. This needs a system to interogate and code the ECU's (dealer??). :der::der:
This seems to be where most people stopped or never got back to tell how they got it going ??:doh:

That is where I got to and decided to go after market - it's decision time - to buy or not to buy the CC ECU - that is the question ??:confused:

Everything you have done to date can be used to install an after market system using OEM controls. You have power and control wiring available behind the radio console and the CC led can be lit using the manual feed to the dash. You may need to install other components for any aftermarket system and possibly an interface to the wheel paddles.

Keep us informed what you decide to do.

hiya

thanks as always for the great help with this

im going to order a dashboard switch and see what i get and its only £10, my steering wheel should turn up on monday.

it would then be nice to recheck to see what power i have and should have at certain points on the underseat plug

i think then once ive established that i could see if i can hunt round for a second hand unit but certainly dont wish to shell out 2-300 if it doesnt work

have been talking to a few main dealers and trying to see what they would charge to just plug one in and activate it to see if it works so that im not left with a cc ecu but would cost me alot more buying one from a main dealer.

i will indeed keep you informed about this as i really do wish to see this to the end, even if it fails but of course will be a result if it works.

im just trying to also piece everything together so once these parts are fitted excluding the cc ecu a way of testing it to prove that when i plug in the cc ecu it will owrk

i looked at what you did and very impressive there's no way i could manage that and i know you used the oe steering wheel paddles etc so looking at it wouldnt know

will let you know when ive fitted my steering wheel and hopefully the correct main switch and will then go from there

i know i keep saying thanks but i just really appreciate other people helping me and i know i would have seriuosly struggled if not impossible without the great advice ive got here
