Hello everyone.
Almost no Defender experience here and some sort of elec/electronic trouble therefore advice needed, please.
Buying vehicle was my bad judgement. It goes into limp mode crawl for fun and usually misses or dies when handbrake is released. There have been other problems.
It is 2004 Defender with 15p engine and seems to have original ECU showing correct VIN on label. Worrying mileage to reach somewhere with genuine LR diagnostic equipmt and nearest place has an Autel device which does not connect.
Had hoped to obtain list of fault codes locally but do not know whether failure with Autel is A) incompatibility, or B) faulty vehicle socket or C), failing ECU, or D) anything else.
Wondering whether to send ECU for checkup/repair as next step to avoid roadside stop-over on way to diagnostics or being stuck at diagnostic garage if ECU is faulty.
Any recommendations/warnings about ECU repairers, please?
Not much sign of oil at red plug.
All earths have been cleaned etc.
Vehicle has been treated very badly.
Regards, and thanks for any help.
