Defender td5 fuel tank

Is it possible at all to remove the tank on a defender td5 from underneath the motor? I was told it was but i dont think it is? can anyone tell me please?

Yes it is. Unless you cut a hole in the floor that's the only way to get at the fuel pump. It rests on a kind of undertray that bolts to the chassis on either side and a couple in the crossmember. The bolts go into captive nuts that either liberate themselves or are rusted solid. With the bolts out the tray can be moved slightly (forward as I recall) to release itself and then the tank will drop so that its full weight is suspended on the fuel hoses and a few wires. After a bit of further struggling the tank can be propped on bricks and bits of wood to release the hoses whilst lying on one's back in a puddle of diesel that has somehow leaked from a tank that had previously been siphoned 'empty'. You get the idea.

yup as above..... If your changing the pump cut a hole in the floor. Mine got stuck half in and took three of us to get it back in and get the plate under it. Never again.
I cut the hole the next time and now have a access hatch

Not changing the pump but need to move the tank slightly as its too far over to left and i am trying to refit towbar etc and the tank is as tight as fook and will not bar over!

That's the trouble with TD5 tanks. They're a very tight fit and won't give you much room for stuff that needs to be bolted on. I wouldn't have room to put jate rings on for example. When complete, you don't want the bolts touching the plastic tank if you can possibly help it or they'll wear through!
