Defender Td5 fuel issue?

l think l may have a problem with my fuel pump and hope someone can advise.
My Defender Td5 is my toy of which l only use on weekends. The other day l noticed that l couldn’t hear the fuel pump running, l usually hear it when l start the engine turn. This morning l started it and drove it onto the drive, again l couldn’t hear the fuel pump, but there didn’t seem to be a problem. I decided to go for a little run and l only got a 100 yards and the engine started to run really rough, l turned around and only made it back onto the drive. l tried to start the engine and it wouldn’t start. I checked all the fuses under the seat and there was a 20amp blown fuse, l changed it and l eventually managed to start the engine. The engine runs ok, but l still cannot hear the fuel pump. The problem is it keeps blowing the fuse, but the engine still runs l daren’t take it for a run just Incase I can't get back. Can someone advise ?

Fuse 10 is the fuel pump 20A fuse, its worth checking the fuel pump relay No4 but it sounds to me that the fuel pump is seizing up and drawing too much current and blowing the fuse, a badly choked fuel pump strainer can cause the pump to struggle but its pump out job to check that which is a bugger to get out unless you cut an access hole in the floor

Thanks, rather than cut an access hole is it possible to remove the tub floor?

No, it's either dropping the fuel tank or cutting a hole, obviously the hole rear tub can be removed but that is a much bigger job than removing the tank and I would not even contemplate that.

Just an update, managed to get the fuel pump out, it was completely silted up and the pump is seized. I did try to clean it up but cannot get the pump to turn, so it’s a new pump. Now looking on eBay the price varies from £80 to several hundreds. Can anyone recommend a decent pump that’s not too expensive?

spot welded in place on the top hat section running front to back. can see where they have all been drilled out.
Also for reference you do not need to cut the central tophat. I have just done the pump on mine and cut an access panel but did not need to cut and of the floor cross bracing so did not loose any structural rigidity.

to the OP I fitted a bearmach pump which so far has done a good job but only been fitted about a week.
