Getting the fuel tank out of my TD5 was an absolute b***er. Getting it back in to place has been even worse. Everything is so very tight that it took over an hour with jack, slings and big hammers to persuade the cover plate back in to place ....... only to find I'd forgotten to fit the tow eye bolts that the tow bar connect to so I had to take it all out again. Tried for the last 2 hours now to repeat the same but just cannot get the combination of locating the studs in the rear cross members and sliding the guard plate over the top of the chassis mounts. Lost the light now so feeling miffed.

Question - is it really this difficult - or am I doing something very wrong. Is it worth modding the plate so it bolts up to the chassis rather than sitting on the rails? Is there something I can buy to end this torture?

Any suggestions greatly welcomed. cheers, Jim

Problem will be solved after I receive a delivery from Paddock Spares - a 'bolt up into position' tank guard in 6mm Aluminium - it will look nicer and ensure I never have to go through that again. Got some good feedback on the LR4x4 site - sounds like I'm not alone struggling with this one with some people opting to raise the cabin a few inches to get the extra space needed - TD5 90 fuel tank take-outs are difficult!
