Big wheel to be swinging on the back door.

We have a big wheel on the back door and I cringe every time I have to open it:eek:.

Not sure I like the angle of that UJ with the 4" lift.

Looks to have been blown over underneath recently;).

But at least its a realistic starting price:).

The 4" lift kit will be coming off - not a fan.
Does that affect swapping the wheels to some sawtooth 16s?

Well you leave it for 12 hours and suddenly theres a rush of defenders in my price range on ebay!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313594798865?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 - Going to get some more info about the engine swap here. No chassis pics though.

Just thinking out loud here, whats possibly the worse thing that could happen to a defender chassis thats got some rust? Surely a case of welding up etc which isnt that expensive - I know a few decent car welders/body jiggers.

Not a Defender [ but everyone calls them that ] but a NINETY. Lots of tartting up been going on here. " chassis very good covered in rust protection " Be very careful here as underseal can cover a heap of misery. It like mine is over 30 years old and if have been looked after can be good [ like mine ] If chassis rails are good then replacement of outriggers is not so bad Whatever, If you do not know Land Rovers when you view take someone who does and if you can't do that read up about inspecting them. Just like an MOT man does a little "toffee" hammer and small screw driver can tell a lot about chassis, bulkhead condition. If seller not willing walk away. If plastered in sh1t walk away.

Ah yes - good point - only cars from 1991 are actual defenders? Others before are just 90s?
Any major differences btw?

Most obvious is the engine, Naturally Aspirated, Turbo diesel and some V8's. TDI 200's were the first to carry the Defender name.
Many Ninety's and One Ten's have had engine conversions, usually to a TDI 200 or 300 from a scrapped Disco. Done well it is a good upgrade.

Yes on cross members, doors and front bulkhead area, the old magnet trick.
Where is the best place to check the vin/serial?

Watched that vid.
Seems to be quite a few patches on said “good” chassis also 1 appears to cover the number;).

That bit on the floor/under seat box is bollocks

Good luck with that viewing take an ammer, a little 1:D.

Don’t be afraid to feel in the gaps on top of the chassis, they’ll likely be gungy but if they are rotten you’ll know instantly. They may not cause an MOT fail but will require attention sooner or later. Poke round the bulkhead anorl, that bedliner (Raptor) is masking something IMO.

Might be worth contacting Simon at Motodrome. I have never purchased anything from them, but they appear to have an open and honest approach to selling their vehicles- they often have YouTube videos showing warts and all. Good luck (it's a minefield!).

***Update***
Hope everyone is feeling okay after last nights result!!
So the original 90 I was going to see the people are been difficult on price and not wanting to accept any offers until there ebay auctions runs out, in the meantime I maybe putting a deposit down on this 1997 90 300TDI County...

Hopefully securing at just under £9k, plus having to arrange travel from Hull to Sussex, it looks a fairly straight defender underneath looks the far best I have sent (obviously cant tell until I see it in the flesh), pics of VIN numbers etc, not much rust coming through around the bulkheads/doors - original colour as well.
I dont think it would need much work - just some interior refinements - carpets/seats etc and then some new windows sticking on the side panels and get rid of that bloody subwoofer!!! Im getting some more pics/video of the underside and the engine running later today so I can update :)
