I've never seen the point of them in this country besides looking well ally. Wouldn't the heater work better having air forced into it rather than having to suck it up? My mates got one fitted but he says he hasn't noticed if its made a difference or not.

the standard intake is sat on the top, so its still sucking in.
plus, does a fender generally move fast enough to ram the air in??

its the only picture I've got handy, but you get the idea;), also called 'Snow covers', can't say I've noticed any huge difference, but to be honest, I just like the look of them:cool::cool:

Dont want to worry you but it looks like you have run down a couple of children on you last trip out

on another note how do you find the rad muff ? i have just ordered one for mine after using a old forsale board last year ?

I am not sure if this helps but I researched this when before I fitted one to mine... the long story short of what I found was this.....

Key question is why are you fitting it ? Lots of folk say to make it warmer/bring it up to temp more quickly. To which the general response was that if the thermostat was working it should make no difference as the radiator is not hot until its up to temp and thermostat opens and viscous fan starts.

If you are fitting it to keep driving snow etc out of the radiator then its worthwhile. Land Rover radiators do tend to be exposed.

Alternatively if you want to dunk it in the mud/swamps it should keep the mud out of your radiator. But it will still come around the side.

I did think i heard a couple of bangs:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Im pretty sure the rad muff does make a difference, I just roll it down when its really cold, and 'heater':rolleyes: does appear to actually get warm:D:D:D

I used a makeshift one on mine earlier this year and it does make a huge difference. I just ran with it half down all the time and it actually let the engine heat up properly. Without it I'm lucky if it gets up to even a quarter and in winter I can forget about having any heating. Im in the process of making a new rad muff for this winter and still think its well worth the time putting one on

So if your engine is not heating properly the problem is probably your thermostat....

There is an awesome thread somewhere of someone who made one out of a tesco car mat (rubber) and zip ties and it really looks the part.

It is, I checked it when I changed the coolant a while ago. It just runs cool is all, it is a 200tdi.

Seen that about the car mat lol coincidentally I bought two of them last night to bond to the one I'm making. Same basic idea but less cheap looking :rolleyes:
