Defender rear wiper woes

Hello
1991 defender 90 having problems removing rear wiper motor so hoping someone can advise.
Motor runs
a bit slow, gets quite warm and is a bit "clunky". Have tried getting some wd40 down the spindie from outside but to no avail. Anyway wanted to remove the motor to give it an overhaul. Wiper arm off, large retaining nut and washer off,steadying screw inside door off but motor won't release. It turns but no amount of pulling (and gentle whacking) helps. There is a sleeve (tube) the motor spindle passes through between the inner and outer door skin and thisee sleeve turns when I wiggle the motor so I'm assuming the spindle is rusted into the sleeve.

Any advice please?

presumably, you've removed the shiny screw to the right of the motor?

if yes, then a piece of wood on the shaft and give it a good whack.

it shouldn't hurt it!

Thanks mojo have tried the land rover universal adjuster approachave but worried I don't want to irreparably damage it. I think these old motors are ridiculously priced now (£450 ish). Tried mole grips on the sleeve but no joy.

if you have a long socket that fits over the shaft but can hit the sleeve, and get through the hole, you may be able to tap it out that way

No it looks as though the inner diameter of the sleeve is slightly larger than the hole for the spindle which enables the sleeve to separate the inner from the outer metal of the door. Methinks I might need a bigger hammer.

Buy a new motor, I got a new one for £40, mine was rusted solid

Thanks sofasurfer mines a prc4612 which are very difficult to find now and I still can't get the old one out. Any further hammering is likely to shatter rear screen and/or distort door panel.

Thanks for this thread! I had a seized PRC4612. I had been looking for a replacement, but no luck. Well there is one on ebay for £400 (!!!) not an option!
I had a chat with Island 4x4 and they told me AMR3676 (£70 ish) will work (and fit) with a new electrical connector (stc4637). However, the trim won't fit so you need to make modifications. I didn't want to do that either!
So in the end i opened it all up ( see this video for advice its similar )
I cleaned up the motor first and then moved on to the gear box and shaft. The shaft was seized as in the video above. Got it freed up, plugged it in and happy days it worked!
Such a good feeling when that happens!
