Defender low range?

Hi there I have Defender 1994 110 200 tdi and it won’t go into low range... the lever moves there but no drive...I took a pic ...what should I strip off to explore more plz ?

HI, Doe's the collar on the right outside the box move when you move stick front and back?
If it moves then check the linkage down to the transfer box. You can look from underneath but it will be clearer if you take off the tunnel. [ cover over the box ] floor plates have to be released first.

Look to see if the link rod that goes to the top of the transfer box is connected and then that the arm on top of the box moves.
 
Ok removed the tunnel and there are two linkages one goes down and is connected and turns a lever on top of a box...the other goes backwards and turns another lever or shaft and both of these are connected and are moving a lever ...took some more pics

the rod that goes rearwards is hi/lo , its adjustable by the 2 nuts at the t/box end for fine adjustment or if requires more will need moving on the splines at top end, whilst testing or adjusting is best to jack one rear wheel up so you can turn the hand brake drum to align the gears and selector to ensure full engagement

SIG Virgil...Ok so maybe it needs adjustment with a bit of luck...does that cover need sealant at the bottom when it goes back on..to keep water out?
 
The one that goes to the 3 bolt cover is for the diff lock.
The one to the 6 bolt cover with the breather is high / low. Before adjusting the rod any I would have a look inside that cover. There is a lever on the rod inside that works the gear selector and it can come loose. A smear of sealant is a good idea and there is an O ring on the shaft that may be replaced if needed.

Id put the lever back on, you don't want any crud getting in the slider box.

The lever moves the linkrod which turns the diff-lock on and off (on top of the box).
The one that goes backwards rotates the selector in the LT230 transfer box for Hi and Low. There is a neutral in the middle, possibly the selector is not going far enough to get Low ?
Can you find the Neutral (ie out of high) ?
 
Will have another look tomoz...it’s clear what they do now ..that’s a.great vid on YouTube...can I get to the top of the transfer box to take the cover off wit the 6 bolts...easy enough..under the drivers seat looks like.?
 
Ok thanks it has a centre box there but looks like it will unbolt...so it’s easy enough to get to the top of transfer box then?
 
Well if it's not dropping out of High (into Neutral or Low) but the lever moves and rotates the pivot bar, then the selector grub screw has come loose hence it won't select.
If it doesn't move the linkage bar at all then the linkage bar connection (to the lever) is loose.
If it moves but only finds Neutral, then it needs adjustment.

Only the first scenario needs the selector casing to be removed from the t/box.
 
I’m not running it at the mo but when I last checked I couldn’t get low.
I’m going to investigate more but work gets in the way a bit.
But is it easy to get to the top of t/box if I need to?
 
Ok yes it does move but yes ok I will take off that tunnel as you say thanks.

Start simple.

Get underneath first and have someone move the low range lever while you are under it and help move the linkage, a long flat-blade screwdriver to pry will work, you will probably find it is just sticky - the lever is not very good at overcoming the linkage when it gets sticky and lack of use can cause this alone. However, if it is disconnected or something is wrong you can see from below and then think about tunnel off if there is an issue.
