Defender HID lights(I know)

Before you old farts start saying 'do a search', I did.:)

Has anyone fitted HID's and had them in for over a year and not had a problem?
With the kits getting cheaper, and crimbo comming up, I thought I might ask for a kit like this;
Landrover Defender 90- HID Conversion kit H4 35w | eBay

Also, been thinking of fitting led side/flash/stop/tail bulbs, but my lights are military and worry about the bulbs fitting through the lens hole.
Anyone fitted these?

Illegal (probably) but it doesn't look like VOSA has worked out how to incorporate this into MOT tests...........yet!

Having said that loads of folk are getting away with it, so far at least, but they annoy me personally because I don't like having my retinas burned out as someone using them comes over a brow of a hill :mad:
 
wot he said, I get followed home 2 or 3 evenings by a numpty with these things fitted, in badly adjusted headlamps too, he blinds me, from behind, even if i dip the interior mirror the wingmirrors get enough light to blind me.
I drive unlit roads to get to/from work, and nearly ended up in a ditch once or twice with being blinded from numptys with HID's/badly adjusted headlamps and the ensuing blackness when theyve passed.

Get some decent lamps, some clear/crystal lenses, make sure yer wirings tip top, you'll get more than enough light, and legally (and more importantly safely)
 
As said get some good halogen headlamps, and wire through a relay and some good thick wire direct to battery and you'd be surprised by how much better they are.
If you must have more lumens get some driving/spots/fogs or even a second set of headlamps with high/lo wired up.
 
agree with the above.

Don't be a cock with a home made HID kit. You could kill someone!

Just upgrade your bowls and get some better bulbs, fit a row of spots on the front for when no one is around if you need more light.
 
I have fitted Bolt-on bits LED sidelights, indicators, fog etc, and LED relay, easy job but must have a good earths all round and leave the old side indicator bulbs in tucked in the wing helps with resistant ? ? doing HID next but having problems find the relay/resistor that make the dipped beam dim? when sidelights go this has to be disconnected for the HID lights but I have not found anyone who can really say how to disabled this. I have now email Land Rover direct to hope get the answer?
 
im going for the same setup, hids and leds light kit with clear lenses then 2 leds light bars along the roof
 
Ive decided to take a new approach to people with badly fitted headlights(thanks to another member on here :D )

Im going to fit a CREE LED work light to the rear and 4 spots to the front and when i get dazzled by morons with aftermarket HID headlights I'm going to do exactly the same to them! :mad:

Is there anyway to report these people? who would you call with a registration number? the police are probably not interested. Vosa?
 
Ive started doing the same, I give em a good blast of the light bar, nice idea about the rear too, I need a worklight...
I have no objection to people wanting better lighting, and tbh I dont give a monkeys if its legal, just do it considerately and think of other road users, normal HIDs are bad enough, even when well adjusted when you come over the brow of a hill, your gonna blind somone, without retro fit HID "Floodlights" cos thats what they are with a standard reflector/lens
