I've been looking at swapping my 200tdi defender for a newer defender or a disco 3.
Went to dealer and about to part ex for a disco when just before I signed the paperwork they decided they needed a test drive of mine.

So, they went out and came back saying the gears crunched going down from 3rd to 2nd. I told them they were talking b****cks. Went out and fine, dropped to 20mph, 3rd to 2nd no problem. They argued it did it if you dropped from 3rd to 2nd at 30mph which it did.
Why would you change from 3rd to 2nd at 30mph in a defender?!
They wanted £1200 off for reconditioning the gearbox, of course I told them where to go.

Just thought I'd check though that they were talking crap, I'm not just accepting their verdict. I think they just got cold feet and didn't have the balls to just admit it.

On a slightly different note, I'd avoid land rover dealers. Looked at part exing mine against a brand new defender. Baring in mind I paid £10k for mine less than a year ago, they offered me £2k!!!
cheers

10k for a 200tdi wtf

Secondly the gear change on defender is slow, beat syncro it will crunch

10k for 200 tdi Defender...must be a helluva good un!

I avoid px and always have. Its never even a consideration for me. Know lots of friends who px every time they change...good easy option but when I hear what prices they get (very very low) for their old vehicles makes me squirm!

I know it was a lot but it is a mint example. Chassis has never been welded, don't think its ever seen a muddy field.
Bought it with a mind to keep as a future classic
