The original tunnel will cover the auto. Ive made a custom bracket right next to my bucket seats for when im harnessed in and can't move although im running a V8 so abit different to a TDI. Wiring is easy to do to run the start inhibitor and reverse switch :)

Much prefer the auto to manual offroad :)

So I have two thoughts.

Ashcroft has said that you can have a degree of freedom with shifter location, so I would like a neat fitting on the tunnel and try and keep middle seat. If it can't make it look smart it will be the copy centre console.

What about the gearing? One comment is the transfer box needs to be changed, what about using a full Disco drive train?

Thats what i did with my 90 apart from the smaller discovery tyre size that's why lock up occurs later then in the discovery as you are effectively higher geared due tyre size HTSH

this is a conversion i wouldnt mind doing some time in the future myself..
what sort of mpg difference would there be from auto to manual.

Depends on how heavy your right foot is, but in my experience, not really that much difference.
Noticed there wasn't much difference in the mileage between my old RRC with a 200tdi manual box, and my discovery with 200tdi auto. But then again, the auto has one of Ashcroft's uprated torque converters that reduces the usual auto hesitation between your foot going down and you going anywhere.
With the kickdown cable properly adjusted, and a well setup engine which ensures you've still got ample torque when the box changes up at relatively low road speeds, you won't be missing your manual box and any pluses in economy that might have given you.... and oh, as has been said, the transfer case swap is certainly a must.

I am 18 posts short to allow me to post in the wanted section, I don't want to make random posts to make my figures up, so does anyone know of a 300Tdi Disco for sale in the North West?
Want one around a grand with MOT so I can use it as a running test bed before I put the running gear into the Defender I haven't got yet.
Thanks.

And so it all begins..
